Golf balls made in the USA

FWIW, the only company making all of their balls here is Titleist. Callaway makes only their premium balls here. Bridgestone makes their premium balls here, along with the E12 white. TaylorMade and Srixon make no balls here, but still charge premium prices for their top balls. Why is that? I know that club heads and shafts are all made overseas, and mostly assembled there too, but golf ball manufacturing can't be that labor intensive, can it?

I'd reckon we pay 3-4x production cost on golf balls. Still have to pay employees, benefits, taxes, transportation, advertising and get a bit of profit.

 

Goes for about any manufacting industry. There's few that don't have such markups.

If you ever watch Shark Tank you get a real understanding of the markup of all goods. Sniper is right, by the time a product gets to retail you are paying 3-4x what it costs to produce.

TaylorMade has a newish ball factory in South Carolina. It's where they make the TP5/TP5x along with other balls. TM has had a ball factory in the US for some time. Titleist has had a golf ball plant (Ball Plant 4) in Thailand for some time. Around 10 years. It produces Pro-V1's for the Asian market.

FYI, Titleist has a ball plant in Thailand as well although more production happens in Massachusetts.

Because people will pay. Welcome to supply v. demand. There's a psychological aspect to it as well. If Srixon sold the XV for $15/doz. less than the Pro V, many people would pick up the Pro V assuming it's a far superior product.

I just received my BOGO Srixon balls in the mail the other day, i had no idea where they were made till i looked on back of the box and seen made in Indonesia

Hard to believe in 2019 there are people still trying to determine where every single product they buy was manufactured. Even if you figure out the answer today, next month the same product might be made 10,000 miles away.

If TM makes balls in South Carolina, why does the box not reflex that? Sure doesn't say USA made.

Certain Taylomade balls have cores made in Asia and then the covers are cast in their South Carolina factory. So they are finished in USA from parts made overseas. To my knowledge there are no Taylormade balls made completely from scratch in their USA factory.

 

Their non-urethane balls are not made in South Carolina.

 

Golf balls nowadays most come from Asia. That's just how it is.

It’s not that important. My Buick was made in Canada and my Acura was made in the USA.
