Soft, straight ball for high SS??

Same here. Love this ball, especially for what I've been getting them for versus all the other "premium" balls that are stupidly overpriced. Still can crank it off the tee over 290, so I don't feel like it's amounted to anything negative. Great distance on irons, love the feel off the putter, and the spin is phenomenal. Have compared it to many other balls on a launch monitor and it still performs.

I moved to it about 10 months or so ago from the Chrome Soft because of the extra 1/2 club off the irons with more or less the same short game control, and the more penetrating flight and lower spin off the driver. And if I want it to fly high off the driver,,,,,,,, I just tee it higher and there it goes. Also, in my experience, is almost impossible to "balloon" into the wind.

And... going even further, why would softness or lack thereof even affect confidence levels? It's just a nice, squishy soft feeling that makes you giddy. Sure, it's fun... but wouldn't you have more fun shooting a few strokes less on average?? Idk maybe that's just me. If AVX works for somebody and they play well, then hey whatever, you play what fits your game and what you like.

I agree, golf is very mental. But your shaft analogy is a dynamic thing... you _feel_ the shaft or club head during your swing, which affects how you deliver the club. Once I hit the ball, it's too late to do or change anything that's happening. My brain probably can't even register "oh that feels soft!" until the ball is already well off the club face.

For ME personally, the feel of a ball won't effect how I deliver my club. It may for some. Knowing how the ball will fly can certainly impact my swing but that isn't necessarily what's being discussed.

I agree the ball will be already gone but do you want to hit it again ? LOL

And if/when you do, the next time you're about to hit it aren't you going to think about how it (shaft/ball/looks/whatever) felt the last time ?

It's the idea as turf interaction needing to be right with the sole design of irons. People will say on a properly hit shot, the ball is already gone by the time the club interacts with the turf. Which is true. But you certain experience impact as a single event, your body can't separate out that millisecond between "ball is gone" and "sole digs into the turf". It's all one moment.

Which most certainly affects how you swing on the next shot and the one after that and the one after that. It's why practicing for hours on driving-range mats you'll get very different results when you go actually play golf on turf. Your hands and brain and body have adjusted that that mat effect at impact.

As always the thread has morphed a bit.

The OP prefers a softer feeling ball which the AVX actually is. I get it. I've played the mid-90's Tour Edition (very hard) and the Chrome Soft. Haven't played anything softer than that. My favorite ball was the TM LDP Tour Red. IIRC that ball was somewhere in the middle.

I guess my only point was that everything is connected to everything. If you're not comfortable with your equipment, and the ball IS the single most used equipment, you're probably not going to play your best.

The mind is a terrible thing,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, LOL

These threads just make me thankful that I'm some combination of half-deaf and hands of stone. Can't feel 1/10 of the differences in golf balls or even clubs that some people are burdened with. For instance I will never have to buy a "German Stainless Steel" putter for umpteen hundreds of dollars because to me the "plain old steel" ones and the "bronze" ones and all the others feel exactly the same.

Now the thread is well and truly "morphed"!

It can be good and bad. I can 100% tell between something like Srixon XV and a Supersoft. Some shafts I can feel major differences in, others I can't.

The whole GSS is just a trademark name, I believe the metallurgy is the same as regular ol SS (although not sure which type, 304/314/316 etc).

Anywayyyy, OP should try AVX and then also try ProV1x and TP5X. Compare results, compare feels... play the one he likes most, for whichever reasons he deems valid for his game.
