Johnny Miller Best Tip Ever

Recommended Posts

I think about my left shoulder in my swing usually when it feels like it’s dislocating. I don’t recommend that feel.

Most times I think about body parts while swinging bad things occur. I do best when just thinking about what the club and ball should be doing. I played a real solid 8 holes the other night, was 1 over, then on 9 I tired to do something weird and hit a high cut....shank. Why do I click on threads like these?

Y'all carry on. :)

I know the feeling. I get myself into trouble when I focus on anything related to weight shift, “swinging with the body,” opening up my hips, loading up during the backswing, etc.

I had the same experience today, irons were solid but the woods and driver yuk. I still shot my lowest round ever because of the irons. Played 9 and shot 41. The ninth hole owns my soul, a double. I hit a bad drive and decided to crank on a 5 wood as I was out 215 going uphill. I caught the cart path and not good.

I had a super round today and the irons were first to see improvement, now the rest of the bag is doing it's job. I made some adjustments and the results are amazing. One thing was to tee the ball lower, and my best drives ever, never straighter. I guess it has helped me so much, because I would "hang back," when nervous about a shot. Shot 41 today with an eagle and a birdie. I had one go in the water as I got a bad number somehow, on my yardage, as the shot looked great in the air, oh well. Another eagle putt came up 4 inches short, arghh! This could be a great year!

Miller had the goods, no doubt, and is a great golf instructor, love hearing inside the ropes tour tested information from him.

We have certainly got more out of him than "go find it in the dirt", "practice some more".... or " it's in the trajectory".

However, sometimes the simple answer is the best answer. I have no idea what Miller was attacked by so many in the past for expressing his point of view. Being honest does not pay, sometimes.

Still enjoying the Miller tip, never been this confident before. Playing Western Hills, Ky and having a blast. Have been in two storms twice playing there, Wed and Fri. The Wed one was very frightening, I had to put the truck in 4x4, it was bad. The Fri storm had a tornado go through right before me, and the power at the house was out till 2:30 in the morning, terrifying.

I find JM's best tip came in his description of the mechanism of **choking**.

According to JM, **choking** comes from varying your normal swing motion under the added pressure of an important shot. Exaggerating some portion of you swing throws off your timing, and ruins the shot.

This has parallels in the military. Special operations people always urge their comrades to "trust your training" during times of stress and fatigue. Just focus on the task, and let it happen.
