Best Laser Rangefinder 2019

Recommended Posts

I was really into getting the best rangefinders. Had the tour x, sold it to get the new Bushnell Hybrid. The hybrid has a crappy laser compared to the tour x. Recently, tried a friend's Caddytek rangefinder, like $100, seriously, it's fine. I bought one too. Yeah, it's not as instant as a Bushnell, takes like half a second longer but no more stress about losing a $500 rangefinder...lol... Try it

My Leupold is doing the same thing! I had an original GX3 that I had for a solid 5-6 years when the number reading on the unit started to fade from the bottom up. Other than that, never had a problem with the thing. Got the new unit after doing their 60% off MSRP replacement thing and have had nothing but problems with it. Not giving yardages and locking onto anything but the flag.

Love my coolshot pro stabalized. All of them are accurate, so comes down to budget and what features you want/need. For the $449 I think the stabalized has the best combination combination of features and price - compact, 100% waterproof, 5 year warranty, slope, and the stabalized tech is the biggest differentiator in the market in my opinion.

How well does it work on picking up flags that do not have a prism built into the stick or on top of the flag? I own the GX-3i (about 5 years old) and that's the problem i'm having. My old club had prisms on the flags, but my new club does not and it's a pain in the rear to get an accurate #.

Obviously it works better with prism than no prisms, any laser will.

But on a couple of prism-free courses I've recently visited I did not have any particular trouble getting flags from 150-200 yards out. I think I recall the non-stabilized rangefinders I used in years past requiring a very steady hand from any past about 160 or 175 yards (unless there were prisms).

I would say it's very easy to get a reading without the prism. I sometimes have trouble getting the green "locked on" circle but it's pretty easy to tell when you are on the flag vs another object. The stabalize feature is super slick when you see it for the first time.

Although a surprising portion of people who have tried mine the first time hand it back telling me, "I can't get it to lock on the flag". Apparently, that little half-second delay before the image snaps into stabilization makes them think something isn't working. They'll say, "I had it pointed at the flag then it moved".

The couple guys I've convinced to try it 4 or 5 times and get the hang of it will finally see how it works. But for some reason most people find the VR operation horribly confusing when they push the button that first time. Weird.

P.S. I've speculated that these guys all seem to use some form of "jolt" rangefinder and their normal way of shooting a flag is to wave the rangefinder around vaguely in the neighborhood of the flag until it buzzes. Which actually works OK on prism flags as long as you're not too far out. And as long as you don't want to range anything other than a flag.

About 10 years ago I got a Bushnell V2 laser. It worked fine. Then I got the itch a couple years ago to get something newer and got a Nikon Coolshot 20 laser. My main reason was its size - very compact so I could easily carry it in my pocket (plus it was cheaper than any Bushnell). Big mistake. The Nikon worked fine at 150 yards on in but from 175 and out it took forever to lock on a flag. Golf Galaxy had a 30 day exchange policy so I traded it for my current Bushnell V4. The Bushnell is super quick to lock on any distance that I would ever need to measure. Lesson learned.

Yes you can. The device has a mode button on top next to the power that allows you to go from Mode 1 (Non-Slope) and Mode 2 (Slope). Mode 2 will give you both the non slope and slope readings in the rangefinder view

The enormous break is 800-1000+ yards. You can get a genuinely modest one that will go an objective out that far, yet past that, or attempting to run a creature at that reach, and you begin to pay boatloads of money. In case you're utilizing it on painted steel focuses on your financial plan is about right. Find out about them as well, in light of the fact that typically when they state 1,200 yards max it's on a huge intelligent objective, and if that ain't it you're taking a gander at 2/3 or less that distance.
