Another good reason to leave rakes in the bunkers

I wondered what would happen if the ball stopped next to the rake in the bunker / on downslope. Outside and infront or side where it could stop someone's ball from rolling in is also odd. I guess stop from rolling in could also be an issue for greenside traps.

 

For tournaments like this, why just not hire a "rake boy" that hands the caddie a rake when needed?

The rake being in/out of the trap is a discussion worth having. That said YJS hit a bad bunker shot from his original spot. If the rake was not there his next shot would still have been next to where the original bunker shot stopped. The location of the rake had nothing to do with how bad his original bunker shot was. Of course that point will be glossed over/ignored by some.

This is true. "Play it as it lies". There are so many exceptions that rules have virtually abandoned that principle and surely will within a few years.

As a player of the game I have no desire to try to blast out of someone ‘s footprint in a sand trap. (Although it’s like hitting out of a divot which we already have to do.) But as a spectator, sand traps have become so ridiculously easy for pros that a no-rake policy would be good for the game.

Guarantee Jordy's going to check every lip for rakes now. Boom, problem solved. No need to make sweeping changes on account of one lousy shot.
