Justin Rose v Adam Scott - Who has the better career?

Yea, but Scott did "win" his in a playoff. Justin "won" his US Open, but it could also be viewed as Phil losing it.

Both should probably have more majors, Scott the British and people forget Rose lost to Sergio in a playoff at the Masters.

Who would I rather watch, Scott, who do I think is better, Rose.

Funny how the pendulum can swing. Scott having won twice recently now and JR not playing poorly but maybe stuck in neutral. At any rate to the OP's question a compelling argument can be made for either one. I like them both and they represent themselves, the game and their sponsors well.

Adam Scott is the automatic winner as he doesn't have to say "Mouregaan Stanleee" 436 times a day. #WinnaWinnaChickenDinna

Perceptions are easily influenced by recent results.

The time I wrote my original post was when Rose just won the Farmers and a lot of people were leaning towards him.

Also Scott's broomstick should strictly not work against him as he wasn't breaking any rules of golf at the respective times he was using it. However, I can understand why the traditionalists prefer a golfer using a short putter

My view would be that if the likes of Ian Woosnam and Fred Couples - one major win apiece, time at world number 1 and a decent chunk of regular wins on their respective Tours are worthy of inclusion then both Scott and Rose should also be included.

Scott should really have 2 majors. He was in prime position at Lytham and threw it away. Green Jacket and the Claret Jug? That's a career any Pro would bite your hand off for.

He has a beautiful swing but I've always felt it was, rather cleverly, a refined swing modeled on Tiger's swing under Butch.

Rose for me is Faldo 2.0, a refined swing based on accurate power and he must also receive kudos for continuing after his horrid start to his career.

Rose could have 2 majors but was beaten fair and square by Sergio at Augusta.

Rose's match against Mickelson at Medinah in 2012 sways it for me as it was the match that really swung the momentum in an epic Ryder Cup. Great memories like that for a viewer hold merit as well.

I think the Olympic GOLD medal give Justin Rose the nod here, but either career would make someone one of the elite golfers of this ERA.

I wish the HOF would go to a points system and then induct one person who didn't qualify VIA points each year so there is something to debate. I have a feeling over the next 15 years there are going to be a ton of borderline HOF picks.
I agree with @tiderider and think Adam Scott has had the better career. Justin Rose has been better over the past 4 or 5 years but as a whole 4 more wins plus a Players' beats an Olympic Gold. I personally think the Olympic Gold is really weak because the field is so lame. It's a neat idea but when you beat such a mediocre field it's just really hard to hold in high regard.

Ok, I would say this is a completely subjective thing just like the GOAT question because we can all have different factors we want to use. But based on empirical data:

ADAM SCOTT: 14 PGA Tour wins, 14 International wins, 1 Masters, 1 Players Championship, Prez Cup (16-22-6). 75 Major appearance, 56 Cuts, 9 Top-5, 1-Win

JUSTIN ROSE: 10 PGA Tour wins, 12 International wins, 1 US Open, Ryder Cup (11-6-2). 63 major appearance, 45 cuts, 10 Top-5, 1-Win

I wouldn't say that it's arguable that AS "cheated" on the greens, since there was no rule against it at the time. Unless I'm missing something. But yea, he's a relatively terrible putter for tour standards and had to resort to ugly putting methods for sure.

Better career- AS by a hair. Highest level player over longer period (high OWGR), I think I'd take Rose- he's more complete IMO.

Very similar players: 1-time major winners; each won a large non-major event (Olympics, FedEx cup vs Players); beautiful golf swings; inconsistent putters.

I’d probably go with Rose due to the FedEx cup. I think the Players is probably more prestigious than the gold medal, but gold medal + FedEx cup probably puts rose over the top.

Full disclosure, I hold the long putter against Scott a bit. I have a hard time with the fact his putter is the longest club in his bag.

That being said I’d take either of those careers and golf swings in a heartbeat

Scott “was” a poor putter. He was 34th SG Putting last year. That is not poor. That is like posts seem to believe Webb Simpson is a poor putter because he did struggle for a while after the anchoring ban and his current method looks funky. The last few years he is one of the best on tour.

I would choose Adam Scott. I choose him for one reason. Both players have had great playing careers. Here is why I choose Adam. He won the Masters. The Masters is my favorite tournament. If I was a PGA Tour player and I won the Masters. I could retire the next day and be happy. I know that sounds weird but its my favorite.

every time i watch AS on tv, my next round takes several holes for me to figure out that i cannot swing like that and should not attempt, even if it's only a mental picture ... the "take it back long and powerful with a full coil" is not in my bag ...
