as someone that works in golf retail. All these added options are a pain. It just confuses customers and the end up not buying anything because they get sensory overload.

This. Reminds me of the famous jam study. When presented with too many options, customers tended not to buy any jam at all.

it's becoming absurd. in my opinion each company should be limited in the amount of irons they can come out with in a year. ideally i'd like to see a player's iron (blade or cb type), a mid handicap iron like the standard apex and a game imporvement iron.

It is always easier when someone walks in and says I want to try X. I am pretty brand agnostic, so I dont really try and steer them to or away from anything. But if they walk in and say I want to get new irons and have no idea what to get. In my head I am thinking "this is going to be a pain".

 

You end up spending an hour plus with them as the clank iron after iron and then say "well its not better than the 20 year old clubs I am playing". and walk out.

 

I try to make it as simple as possible and not even bring up 90 percent of whats available just because for most, It doesn't matter.

The OP is in Indonesia, so I think it’s probably safe to assume this is an Asian market release and not something you have to worry about in the US.

well that is a good thing. haha. the OG star stuff was great for seniors and ladies. it performed very well. I think this could as well. I just don't like having to explain why one company has 7 sets of irons. Luckily it is only a part time gig.

For sure XForged Star is designated for Japan and Asia market.

So was Epic Forged driver and I believe it was also sold in Europe, Australia and US

I do not have any experience with walking into Porsche dealerships... Sadly.

They are on the Callaway Japan website. Larger heads in every dimension compared to X Forged, lower CG, less loft.

I'm in tech sales now, but my first sales job was at a golf shop. I'd ask 3 questions and give 3 options:

What have you liked in the past?

What matters to you most?

What's your budget?

Then pick the three you think fit and always present them with:

Playback: "So what I'm hearing is that you liked X, Y is important to you, and you're looking to stay in the Z range - did I miss anything? Perfect - I've got 2 great options for you." People really want to feel listened to, and this step goes extremely far in building rapport.

Presentation: "So these are the two most popular options based on what you told me. I also pulled a third, but it's one that I'm not sure is right for you as you may have to grow into it." The third should be the one you think is right for them as people love buying "not for you".

 

Just my $0.02. Take it or leave it. It's worth what you paid for it.
