Hot metal pros are knocking out my 22 year old irons... time for them to be the millennials they are and live in my basement...

Hoping I picked up a new driver on the bst today... cobra Ltd, looking to knock out my Adams finally...

Speaking of Adams, trying to make a bst 18 degree work... shaft is definitely stout!

Still working on a new three wood, but that’s the last thing on my list... new wedges (vokey) soon...

Should have a bag for the next five years.

I put my Titleist 905S 9.5* driver with Graphite Design Tour AD DI 6S shaft back in the bag. I am testing a 905T 9.5* driver with Graphite Design Tour AD DI 6S shaft to see if the little bit of forgiveness of the 905T is worth the switch. The TM M3 experiment has not produced what I had hoped. I also recently put a set of Mizuno JPX900 Tour irons (3-PW) in the bag. So far both are producing nice results.

Driver:  TaylorMade 300 Mini 11.5° (10.2°), Fujikura Ventus Blue 5S Velocore

3W:  TaylorMade M4 15°, Graphite Design Tour AD DI 7S

Hybrid:  TaylorMade Sim2 2 Iron Hybrid 17°, Mitsubishi Tensai AV Raw Blue 80 stiff

Irons:  Mizuno Pro 223 4-PW, Nippon Modus3 Tour 120 stiff

GW / SW: Mizuno T-22, 52° (bent to 50°)/ 56° (bent to 54°), True Temper S400

LW:  Scratch Golf 1018 forged 58° DS, Nippon Modus3 Tour 120 stiff

Cobra F9 driver and Piretti Potenza II 375g putter, both are excellent.

What missed the cut:

G400 Max driver despite trying a number of shafts I never got along with it

TM Hi Toe 58* wedge, I was never 100% comfortable with it so went back to my Gen 1 PM Grind

TMB 716 irons, they look and perform great but my game is too inconsistent right now to use them

It's been quite a year:

Failures:

-Cobra F9 Driver - Failed, wanted to love this but just couldn't get consistency.

-Titleist T-MB 2 Iron - Just couldn't get along with it.. Granted, I only tried one shaft.

Successes:

-PING G410 Plus w/ Accra TZ6 - replaced the standard G400 w/ HZRDUS Black.

-Cobra F9 Tour Fairway w/ Tensei Pro Orange 80x - replaced 2017 M2 3HL w/ HZRDUS Red. - Love the heavier shaft in the fwy.

-Driving Iron/Utility - G410 Crossover w/ HZRDUS Red 105x. Replaced PXG 0311X w/ AD DI 105x.. However, about to test out that New Level Utility so this is subject to change.

-Iron and wedge shafts - Just recently swapped out the Modus 120x w/ Super Peening Blue X.

-Wedges - Went from a 52/58 set up back to a 51/55/60 set up (dropped my 3 iron).

That’s a lot of volatility for me; the less I play, the more I change. But for the rest of the year, I’ll be playing more, so the bag is finally set. LOL.

Went from M1 440 driver and SLDR fairways to M5 driver and M3 fairways. Small but noticeable changes for the better.

Irons and wedges are on year two and putter is on year 14.

So far I've changed:

Hybrid - decided to drop my 2 iron for something a little easier to launch off the deck, without losing ability off the tee. Tried a couple of other long irons and settled on a Titleist 818 H2 19 degree - lots more flexible from rough/fairway, and just as usefull off the tee. I've even had some success with it from fairway bunkers, which I wouldn't stand a chance with my 2 iron. I've had a couple of issues with accuracy, but that looks to be a grip issue rather than the club, so I'm marking this change down as a win.

Putter - was perfectly happy with my old Cameron Del Mar, but was browsing eBay and came across a Method 003 originally from The Oven in my specs so took a punt - thinking was that if it didn't work I'd just go back to the Cameron. The difference in feel took a little getting used to, but now I've transitioned I prefer it to the Cameron. I always struggled to get long putts to the hole with the CamDelMar, no such issues with the Nike. It has CB etched on the face too, so it looks to be Carly Booth's old putter. Also a win.

Fairway Wood - my Nike was about to snap so got fitted two weeks ago for a Titleist 917 F3, and so far, so very good. I've gained 20 yards or so on the old 3 wood, and mishits get me into less trouble also. Part of the fitting did involve advice about my grip mentioned above, so some is due to that. Love the feel and flight it puts on the ball though, so this is also a win, so far.

Future

When getting fit for the 3 wood I also tested a 917 D3, which I have a new shaft on order for (Aldila Rogue Max 65X) - when that arrives I expect it will be the end of the last Nike wood in my bag (sadface). Still like the Vapor Fly, but wasn't fit for it properly so think I am leaving distance in the bag - especially now my 3 wood is only 10 yards behind it.

The Dee Three - Titleist TS4 9.5 deg, EvenFlow White 6.5 65g, A1 Setting

Henrik - Titleist 917 F3 15 deg, Rogue Max 75x, B2 Setting

The Walking Stick - Titleist 818 H2 19 deg, Rogue Max 85x, B2 Setting

The Interloper - TaylorMade P770 3 iron, S400 Tour Issue, +0.5inch +1 deg loft

The Blades - Nike VR Pro 4 - AW, S400 Tour Issue, +0.5 inch

The Sand Iron - TaylorMade MG2 TW-12 Grind, 56 degree, S400 Tour Issue

The Flopper - TaylorMade MG2 TW-11 Grind, 60 Degree, S400 Tour Issue

The Putter - Nike Method 003 from The Oven

Well I did an entire bag fitting so pretty much everything was replaced minus my wedges which just got new shafts and extensions and my fairway cause it worked and I ran out of cash to blow.

Some of the biggest flops for me were the F8 and F9 drivers. I just could never hit them no matter what shaft and setup I or my fitter had them in. Yet the F7 fairway is still in my bag, for now at least.

Will see in a few months if my hybrid and fairway get replaced.

Its still a little early but first thing was definitely the weight. The cut lengths on these shafts were about 10g heavier than the Modus 120x. I didn't think much about the 10g difference but I was pretty exhausted at the end of my range sessions, ha. They also "feel" stiffer due to not having the softness in the grip end that the 120x have but I have no trouble loading them. They are still very smooth like all Nippon shafts tend to be. The ball flight seems a bit more consistent, which lacked for me in the 120x. Very penetrating mid flight and the spin is much lower (not as much left or right tailing shots). So far I like the change. Hopefully that carries onto the course. I haven't had much work in yet with the wedges so can't comment much there.

Successes-

Ping G400 9*, thought the smaller head size may hamper my confidence, but It has performed beautifully

Mizuno ST180 16*, No words, performs as needed and looks absolutely sharp

Middle of the road-

Ping G Crossover 21*, unfortunately I fell into a swing slump across the bag not long after buying it. When my swing is on, it is one of my absolute favorites in the bag. My biggest complaint is just the appearance of the massive amount of offset.

Ping Tour shaft has replaced the Alta in my driver.

TM Mini Driver has replaced Ping G400 3 Wood.

Got a Cobra Ltd Black 5 Wood coming which I expect to replace my 19* Titleist 818 hybrid.

Ping G410 SW has replaced Cleveland CBX 52*.

And several putters are in rotation, only had one at the start of the year, now have 6. I suspect I’ll sell the SL and the Exo as I prefer a milled face, find it much more consistent and pleasing to hit. Maybe will replace those two with either a Bettinardi Queen Bee #9 or a Toulon Palm Beach.

Lol, the better question is: What hasn't?!?!?

SO, while it's totally not my fault (see what I have to do to justify myself...), I have changed almost every single thing in my bag this year with the exception of my 22° X Forged UT w/PX. It remains the only un-bungled club in the bag. The only other "survivors" are my PM 1.0 head and 18° X Forged UT head (both have had the shaft changed) and my AD BB driver shaft (which has a new head on it).

Now, all that said, the only thing changed recently (last 4 months or so) is the shaft in said 18°. I put an Aldila VS Proto in it, and took out the PX, to try to get a little more playability off the turf. I've had tons of success in the past with the VS shaft in all sorts of hybrids and fairways. It, along with certain shafts from the Rogue family, are very clearly my favorite "tee & turf" shafts, so I am hoping that I will get the same reaction out of this club. If not, the PX is going straight back in!!

My driver search is never ending. I seem to hit anything well but I cannot find something that I cannot live without or keep coming back to. I try every year to replace my hybrid and always go back to my TEE XCG6 with stock stiff shaft - nothing even comes close to this. I also tried to dump the i210s this year with the W/S V6's but no luck. We'll see if the Apex Pros, 620 CBs/T100s, or yet to be related iBlade 2.0 can knock them out.

G400 HZRDUS Yellow Driver kicked the Epic/Speeder 661 out.....No contest as far as consistency goes. The Epic was a bit long when flushed, but the G400 is in the fairway alot more and nearly as long.

Cobra Forged Tec Black irons are still battling w/ my Z765s for dominance....not sure if they are staying. 765s feel better and seem more accurate ( Modus 105 in both sets)

Took me almost 2 years to find it but finally filled out my bag. I play all Yonex E-Zone Tri-G clubs...woods, irons and gap wedge....irons were 5-GW when I got them and I have been searching everywhere for a matching 4 iron. Even Yonex USA could not get me one......finally spotted one on EBay Japan and pulled the trigger....it arrived the other day, almost a month ahead of projected delivery date :)

So my set is now complete... Tri-G driver, 3 wood, 5 wood, 4-GW....Miura 54 and 60 Tour Black wedges and a Miura KM 007 black putter .

Driver: M5 kicked out my 2016 M2. Didn't think the M2 would ever be dethroned but I added a third weight to the M5 track to get the swing weight back up (shaft butt trimmed 1") and it has been every bit as long as the M2 but way better dispersion.

Taking my hybrids out of the bag (Srixon H45) and putting back the 545 3 and 4 irons. Rest of my irons are 745s and I wish I had the 3 and 4 as well but the 545s are still performing better for me than the hybrids. Not sure what changed about my swing this year but the hybrids are total 50/50 between great shot or way left/way right. Experimented with lead tape to get the swing weight up, felt a little better but did nothing to address the inconsistency. The irons don't quite get the same high trajectory but they are never bad misses. I'm going to experiment with lighter shafts in them to see if I can get a little higher launch.
