Heavier weights in spider x

For those that added weight to your spider x, did you go 6 or 12? I know I want to go heavier but not sure which one I'd like.

I added 12’s and has made a great putter even better. Keeps my hands steady. I have a 34”.

I got (2) 6g weights but have thought about getting (2) 12's since going Left Hand Low recently to keep it more stable. Going from the stock 2g weights in my 35" to 6g made a huge difference in feel and controlling tempo

Put the 6g weights in mine when I switched to the 50g P2 Tour Aware grip. It was a great putter out of the box, but it’s amazing now. My putting is the best it has ever been. Great feel and balance with just fantastic distance control. Dig it so much I’m getting a spare just to use indoors for practice.

Hey, I know this topic is a little old, but just wondering if anyone has tried both 6 and 12g weights. If yes, can you tell me which you liked more?

I have two 12 gram weights in mine at 34". Makes the putter on the heavier side for sure but I like the stability.

May be in my head, but I feel more confident in the 5’ and closer putts.

So I went to 12g weights and I kind of regret it. I liked the stock weights to be honest but for some reason I thought they were 6g and not 2g. My putter feels super heavy now, didn't think it'd make that much of a difference. 

 

I think 6g might've been the right move but I'll test it out a bit longer and see how it goes.

Thanks for the replies! I’m going to try the 6g weights to start and see how it goes. I found them on TaylorMade’s website, so that’s where I’m going to get them.

I bought the six and then switched back to stock. Felt like I was leaving a lot of putts short.

That's interesting to hear that 4g extra gives you enough feel to leave putts short. I always thought (for whatever reason) TM didn't sell weights for Spider X. But now that I know they sell 2, 6, and 12g, I'll have to check it out and likely buy the 6g and 12g to mess around. I'd imagine going from 2g to 12g will definitely feel different.

If anyone has 6g they don't want and wants to swap with 12g, I think I'd be willing. I still haven't taken my putter on the course since the change though so could change my mind. But DM me if interested.

I ended up getting the 6g weights because it seemed too extreme to go to 12g weights. I've been happy with the 6g weights and I think the weight is a little better than stock, but not too heavy.. My putter was cut down an inch, so that affected the swing weight, but I still think the 6g weights are an improvement.

 

I would be interested to try the 12g weights at some point if I can find them somewhere that allows returns.

Does TaylorMade not allow returns on weights?

I think they do, but you have to pay return shipping, so I’m not sure it would be worth it for a $20 item.

Experimented with 8g and found it a bit heavy with a loss in ‘feel’ if that makes sense...

 

Got the weights originally from a reseller on eBay (The kit came with pairs of 8, 10 and 12g weights)...

6g weights ordered from Taylormade ended up being perfect for me. 

 

The 8g were too heavy, can’t imagine the 10/12g weights working, but it’s all subjective I suppose.

The TaylorMade driver wrench works just fine. It is was I used to change the weights on my spider x from 2 grams to 12 grams. Just don’t go crazy and over tighten like you can on the driver.

I prefer the 2g. 6 feel a bit heavy for me.

Is there any difference between oem vs aftermarket weights? I want to purchase the 6g weights from Taylormade but there website does not have the option to purchase the weights.
