Has anyone heard anything about the new Gil Hanse design that's supposed to start soon in Georgia outside Savannah?

Pretty sure the Yale men's golf coach is one of the fundraisers or financial backers of the project. Hasn't been much posted other than Gil putting up an instagram pic several weeks (months?) ago. I'd be interested to hear more updates on the project though. It's great sandy soil down in that area of the state.

My understanding is it is an exclusive club $250,000 membership. Match Play Only. It's being built near where I work and live. It's interesting to say the least.

Heard they had a few holes finished and seeded. Think they are shooting for 2018. Apparently super exclusive.

Update.....Course is open and being played. I live in Collins about 8 miles away and have drove over there a couple of times hoping to get a glimpse of something but both times was meet by GA state patrolmen (not security guards) and told to turn around. There was a big deal the week before the masters this year when Luke Donald and Rory Mclrory flew into Vidalia and went and played it. My cousin works for southway crane company and hung some of the rafters for the clubhouse (which is immaculate) and meet the GM of the project who gave him a tour of the facilities. He's an avid golfer who goes to biloxi,ms frequently and plays fallen oaks g.c. as well as several other high end resorts with high end golf courses so I value his opinion when he describes a golf course. He said that it is as nice as Augusta National (tee thru green). Just remember its built thru a sand dune and a lot of the area is left natural a'la Pine Valley. There were initially rumors that it was to include a large road course with one of the straight aways serving as a private landing strip but I dont think that has happened yet. Its just hard to believe that something like this is located in Cobbtown GA, population maybe 300. I also heard it was built primarily for country music stars, with Alan Jackson being amongst the 1st couple of investors. Most of what I know is rumors or speculation but what I do know to be fact is that there is 10x the amount of Private jets flying into Vidalia over the last couple of months.

 

BTW....1st post. Thanks for having me. I will keep this thread updated if I learn of anything else.

I don’t know if it’s as good as ANGC but it’s awesome. Club is a pure as it can get. Strictly match play. No discussion of scores. Great trip. Can’t wait to watch the course mature and can’t wait to go back

It is spectacular... going to be a very small National membership. Some superstars have joined already (one of them mentioned above). Definitely going to end up in the top 50 in my opinion. Still has some maturing to do, but it plays great already. It officially opens in September.

Well we had Rocky Creek and Hawks Point over in Vidalia but both of them have closed down within the last year. Then you have Metter (Willow lakes) about 15 minutes away from Ohoopee. Just seems to me like a shame that the area can't keep one of it's two courses open but within pitching wedge distance, there's this new exotic private course.
