first time Selling on BST

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

I bought a lot of stuff on the BST and had nothing but great transactions. Only a few times since the site change and always used Paypal business due to all the guidance on "deal or no deal".

I'm thinking of posting some good stuff(to me) I don't use on the BST and was hoping to receive some guidance as a first time seller due to the horror stories posted lately.

I understand how to make a appealing post, clear communications, confirm payment received, ETA on shipping, provide tracking once shipped, and part ways, received the goods as pictured = a very happy golfer... Those were the cleanest transactions for me.

what are the risk's as a seller, possible "bad" situations, and how to avoid a transaction that will back fire in the end?

Thank you so much in advance,

Tim

Other than the items you listed above.

Ship to PayPal confirmed addresses.

For expensive items consider insurance.

First payment receives the item. The longer you wait for buyers, haggle, or delay the farther back your ad gets pushed. You have a very limited window where lots of people will see your item. Take advantage.

Im sure there are many others but with the new format I haven't even looked at the BST to sell. Funny because I had 200+ feedback previous to the change.

Callaway X-JAWS - 52/58*

Odyssey OWorks 2ball  -  34" - 1* loft - 71* lie
Slighter Proto 1 #9/Del Mar design - High Toe - Long neck - Deep Milled face - 33", 370gr, lie 71*, loft 4*

Thank you for your reply, really helpful. As you mentioned above, I see many members saying they avoid the BST all together.. This is why I'm having doubts posting..

I've had a job title change recently and just havent had as much time or interest in selling items. There is still plenty of people that are perusing the BST hourly. I miss my feedback. It was a badge of honor. :) That being said, I hope the feedback comes back for the safety of our members (and for selfish purposes as well).

My guide to being a first time seller:

(didn’t read what you were selling so this might need to be tweaked)

If it’s used

-Take a crap ton of pictures from every angle you could imagine. Don’t rate the item or use words like mint! Your perceived 9/10 could be a 6/10 to the buyer. I think buyers like to use condition of the clubs to mask buyers remorse and I’ve seen here too many times of partial refunds over condition squabbles.

-Have an understanding of shipping prior to completing the sale. Also have your own box ready. My very first golf sale were apex irons I went to a ups store and by the time of buying their golf box and shipping I was negative 50 in the hole. I had no idea. Even my most recent sale of irons shipped to Texas from the east coast cost me 30 bucks. Irons suck shipping. Of the 8 iron sets I’ve sold 6 have been done locally via CL or FB to save on shipping.

-Protect your sale item with bubble wrap, etc. A lot of people take a picture of the item in the box protected or of the condition of the box prior to shipping in case the buyer makes a claim about the item being damaged.

I’ve not been burned on it on here but it’s not a bad idea.

-Ship as soon as you can, keep the communication flowing. Don’t try to secure the sale while your on vacation. People get nervous when their money is tied up.

-Look at the buyers user history and when they joined. Yes I sold to a newbie once or twice but for your first sale stick to someone active.

-Prepared to be haggled don’t take it

Personal and make sure you specify no trades if you aren’t interested or prepared to be bombarded with trades (usually of lesser quality value). Prepared to get trade offers even when you specify no trades but at least you can point them to that when you decline.

-Put what your selling in the subject. I use to be in the catchy title club but if you aren’t in the mindset to pay out of pocket to pin, BST ads will hit page two sometimes within a half hour. My last few listings I kept it brief and put the price in the subject too so someone quick glancing knew exactly what was in there. Seemed like they sold quicker (although one I gave the item away for free so maybe that helped ;)

That’s all I can think of for now

Natty definitely covered all the important angles, especially in regards to shipping and pictures. I would say it’s definitely better to undervalue your item than overvalue it. I’ve bought many items here when the seller described it as average condition but when I got it, I would easily put it as above average so it was a pleasant surprise for me.

One thing to do also (piggybacking off of the haggling part) is do a little research on eBay and the BST for what your item is selling for. Most guys that buy here also scour eBay so they have a good idea what prices are.
