Did something for the first time ever today... 14/14 fairways!!

The last couple of weeks I've really been trying to get into my right hip at the top of my back swing and today everything finally "clicked"

Me and a golf buddy played a late afternoon round today on my favorite public course in town. For some reason I was just ON with my driver today. Super confident. Miss hit 3 tee shots and they were all simply a little thin. Absolutely felt amazing! Course was a little wet from overnight rains but I've never been so consistent with the driver before.

Also hit 9 greens which is second most for me all season. Anyone else every hit all the fairways or all the greens??

I've hit all greens once, but never all fairways. Went on to 3 putt 3 times in that round for a +3. Otherwise it was a boring 2 putt every green. Gave shots away to the field that weekend!

'Hit 14 fairways once in over 1000 rounds in the past 15 years. I came close a few years back, but my drive on #18 rolled 4 inches into the rough. Grrrr. I shot 72 a few years back with 18 pars. 'Never had that happen before.

I do that every once in a while. Still rare. Still, after 45+ yrs, I haven't hit every green.

Fairways hit is sometimes a bad stat. I often play courses where hitting the fairway is a mistake. Aiming at some other point to take advantage of length and angles. Do you count that as a "fairway hit" if you hit your target area?

Fairways hit is a terrible stat but yeah, I've done 14/14 a handful of times over the years. None of them were exceptionally low scoring rounds. The difference in hitting 14 fairways versus hitting 11 fairway and missing the other three by five yards in the light rough is virtually meaningless.

I do score better when I go 14/14 (or even 13/14) in keeping the ball between the tree lines and in sight of the green. Not hitting tee shots into trouble is the key to scoring, not parsing the difference between inside or outside an arbitrary mowing line. Especially for those of us who play courses not set up to imitate a US Open or PGA Championship with lost-ball rough both side of every fairway.

No doubt GIR is a better stat than fairways hit. However, I look at the correlation to see what was on/off. If I hit a ton of fairways, but few greens, I generally know my iron play was bad. If I hit fewer fairways, but a ton of greens, then my driver misses weren't terrible, and I gave myself a legit chance at hitting the green.

Edit: The rough this year has been absolutely brutal given the rain. Thick and wet. There are courses were finding a ball in the rough has been a challenge. In these cases missing the fairway is an almost guarantee of a missed green.

I get what you all mean. The course I play has THICK fescue rough right now so its pretty important to not be in it.

For me it really represented a breakthrough in my swing in that I didn't hit a bad shot (well with the driver) all day. Every drive ended up pretty much where I wanted it to. Playing again this afternoon... Gonna try for 10+ greens this time around!

Awesome! I have never hit all 14- fairways. I have hit all 18-greens, once. Earlier this year I’d hit the first 15-greens and all of the fairways until I missed the 16th green and the 17th and 18th fairways. I wound up with 12/14 FIR and 17/18 GIR. Hitting every fairway is an awesome achievement. Congratulations!

I've hit 100% fairways a few times, but as one of my buddies likes to say - "The most important shot is the second one." While hitting a drive OB or in deep rough will kill a round, there is some truth to his saying as if you don't get your second shot on the FIR's don't mean squat.

On a related topic - I posted a while ago about having 15 GIR. There too, the next shot is important as I was 0-15 with the birdie or eagle putts. I was snakebit with the putter and couldn't make anything, but hey - I had 15 GIR and that should count for something.

That fantastic. How did that translate to your final score? I've played my best golf when I'm getting up and down, saving pars, and gaining strokes around the green. When I learned that, I put less pressure on my tee shots and started worrying less about hitting fairways, and in turn performed better on the tee.

Ended up shooting a 73 (par is 72). Hit two tee shots on par 3s that were TERRIBLE. Both landed in the water and led to doubles.

Back in college when I was playing my best golf I never hit many fairways or greens but I could scramble with the best of them. My swing was... Well not very fundamentally sound and had a lot of compensations. Only within the last year or so have a really tried to get my swing more consistent. It's finally paying off!

In 2015 I was getting close to hitting every FW. I averaged something like 82% fw in July/August. Always would just miss a couple. Finally, I broke through. Played a pretty easy fairway finder course (actually the Monday qualifier for the Rocket Mortgage coming up) at the Orchards Golf Club. The back 9 has a lot of wide fairways.

But then something crazy happened. I played my University course the next two rounds, one a practice round, and one a tournament round, and I hit every fairway in both of those rounds. This is NOT an easy course to do it on. I didn't keep track before or after these 3 rounds, but I hit at least 42/42. Like DiMaggio's hitting streak, I probably won't ever get close to this again.
