What dy'all think the most *overrated/underrated* thingies in golf equipment?

orangeology

Recommended Posts

already bought 3 driving irons and a couple headcovers on BST like yesterday . it's Tue PM and w'all know we're bored so why not vent? state what you think *the most overrated & underrated thing* in golf equip, in simple *word1/word2* format. they can be equip, concept, model of club, some fancy-sounding technology, drill or marketing jargon whatever.

ex) 009 / koozie

hope it's a fun thing. let me drop a couple, first.

I think there are loads of under-rated things out there:

$150 Rangefinders

Spend two months using an affordable rangefinder and I promise you'll see a noticeable improvement in your wedge game.

SuperStroke putter grips

These get the shoulders more level and the hands working together while reducing wrist action. What's not to like!?

Target Holes

Having something you can toss down on the putting green literally anywhere you want is a nice little golf-hack. No more fighting over the cup with the one straight putt!

MG Golf Gloves

Here me now and believe me later! Top quality cabretta leather for $6.

Push-carts

This is a HUGE upgrade if you're used to carrying your bag. Do your back a favor...

Low-spinning shaft upgrades

Way too much attention is paid to driver heads considering how many incredible options have been put to market throughout the last decade or more. Shafts really are the secret ingredient you need to consistently hit big drives. Totally worth the $$$ in my opinion (at least for the dedicated).

Mid-weight iron shafts

It's easy to end up with a shaft you think is right for you but which is really 10g or 20g too heavy.

It's hard to say anything is really over-rated. If we went by some of the threads here I might say:

Driving irons

They’re just not a great fit for most players, especially those playing parkland-style courses. Considering how little advantage they actually provide over a regular iron, I think they're mostly just something to spend money on. It's definitely the least important club you can obsess over.

58 vs 60

I see this debate but truth is, it doesn’t matter which you have. That club is 99% about skill.

Low-lofted fairways

Very few golfers play courses or hit their drivers far enough to need a low-spinning 3w to complement the driver for long tee shots.

Did we just become best friends?

Agree with all of this, though I don't have a putting target. Fortunately, no one at my club actually practices, so I'm not ever competing for space.

Love my Precision Pro range finder... I need to get into the habit of using it more!

Easy.

The most over rated in golf equipment related promotion, 15 more yards with each of the new driver model. second would be the fitting of golf equipment will be the next magic bullet.

On the flip side, improve physical condition of the golfer for the base to improve the golf game. It is a "sport" and the golfer's physical ability still plays a huge part of the out come of the game. However, it does not mean every golfer has to shot a low score to enjoy it. Second in place would be the eye sight of the golfer also plays a big part of how the golfer enjoy the game.

One of my favorite phrase describing the game of golf.... Golf is the other thing we could enjoy not being very good at it , like having sex.

Of course the degre of enjoyment might be different depending on the golfer's ability, but, if one had never been to that level, he/she may not know the difference.
