Agree. Got smoked by a guy with a 10 year old driver the other day. Regret EVERY time i forget the wet towel.

Distance irons are flat out stupid. You need to gap your clubs up to whatever you hit your driver. I love guys who brag about how far their pwedge goes. It's about distance _control_, buddy.

 

The idea of buying a 400 dollar putter is ridiculous to me but those things hold their value.

Overrated: Scotty Cameron Putters (especially their headcovers, c'mon $200+ for a piece of leather lined with fleece and velcro with some Hula girl embroidered on it?? You can get really nice milled putter at that price.)

 

Underrated: Lessons and practice. If some people here can just spend the time to stick with their current clubs (especially those made in the last 15 years when the COR and driver head sizes have been maxed out, iron tech has been stagnant for at least 20) and take the time to work on their game and learn the theory of the golf swing the game would be a lot more enjoyable. You can't buy a game.

While I do have a shot routine when I play and even practice, I shake my head when people just pound off drivers on their first swings when practicing and keep doing it with that club until their range basket is empty. I probably practice with my driver 10% of any given time and spend most of my shots with short irons and wedges. It is the same swing with all clubs as you may know.

I was hitting balls yesterday and the two guys on each side of me only brought their driver. Whatever floats your boat I guess...

 

I'll hit ten or so balls with driver. Five normal swings then some fade and draw attempts. After that it gets tiring. And I know pulling a wedge out and knocking down the short targets is going to improve my score.

Guys like that are a dime a dozen and probably play 1 or 2 rounds every year.
