I think proper fitting of clubs is the most underrated, but the majority of players I see are in ill fit equipment which makes a measurable difference. Improving the swing is most important to improve, but fitting will definitely help. While the entire more distance is a lot of marketing is hype to a point, proper fitting of clubs optimizes all the important flight metrics (distance, dispersion, trajectory, spin, shot shape). Both shafts (weight, torque, flex pattern, stiffness) and driver design (position of weighting, shape of head, etc) have a big effect on flight characteristics (spin, trajectory, dispersion, distance). That is why the pros are always doing rigorous testing of new equipment with launch monitors.
