Tensei pro orange in a fairway wood

TayUniversal

Recommended Posts

Has anyone tried the Tensei Pro Orange in their fairway woods? I swing driver between 115-120 and am usually a fairly high spin player. Going with the Epic Flash sub zero driver and fairway woods. Getting the PO in my driver, just wondering if I should to the same for my 3 & 5 wood.

Does anyone have any experience with these or would you have any other recommendations of shafts to look at?

Thanks!

The problem with the Orange in the 3-wood is that it is counterbalanced. And most 3-woods do not warrant the counterbalancing. If you like the way the Orange performs in driver, then Pro White is the way to go in 3-wood!

Hope that helps! ;)

Thanks for the reply! So, why would the counterbalancing negatively affect the 3 wood? especially because I will likely add more weight to the head to make up for the difference. Are there other factors at play here?

There is an argument to be made that counter balancing these days is to purely offset longer playing lengths in the driver, but that is only one reason. I don't agree that 3-woods do not "warrant counter balancing" since it is just as much personal preference as anything else. That said, the Pro Orange doesn't fit the traditional mold of a fairway wood shaft, but that of course does not mean much when it comes to individual feel, especially since something like the Pro White does not fit that mold either and yet it has become a very popular fairway wood shaft. Tiger had Pro Oranges in his fairway woods for awhile as does Justin Rose currently. If you really like it in the driver then by all means, give it a shot elsewhere.

I have the 80tx in a m3 right now. Testing it but will be buying it.

It is cut short to 42” and it swing weights at D0. I will be adding a 1” extension to it and that would bring the weight back to D3-D4 which will be perfect.

I don’t think the counterbalance property’s of the shaft are negative at all. This shaft for me at 120 mph ss feels fantastic.

It's not that counterbalanced shafts are a "negative affect" for 3-woods, it's more so that today's 3-wood heads are generally not designed with the same changes in mass and the low and forward center's of gravity that we are seeing with driver heads, where they actually warrant counterbalancing to make them more manageable to swing. The only 3-wood I can think of that might benefit from a shaft like the CK Pro Orange would be something like the Taylormade M1, which was a fairly heavy and low-spin 3-wood head.

You can definitely try it, but you might find that the overall club will have a much lighter feel. So to offset this, you might end up having to either lengthen the club or add lead tape to the head to get your swing-weight back up. It's just extra work/tinkering, unless of coarse you want a long 3-wood or lighter swing-weight?

Playing the Pro Orange 90 TX in both my 3 wood and 5 wood at shorter lengths (1/2" under titleist standard) used the +6g weight in both heads to get them to D4 and love the way they perform, have tried a bunch of stuff and I hit these the straightest and the most consistent.

Liking mine better each time I hit them. Really stable flight and reduced movement in both directions compared to shafts I've been using in the past. Especially on the more lofted 5 wood, the 80 tx has been excellent. Plenty of feel for playing a variety of shots off the tee and turf, doesn't feel like a one trick pony in that regard. Just need to get tipping right for the amount of head weight you need to achieve preferred swing weight. Mine ended up at a slightly lower swing weight than usual and I just went with it (basically ignored the effect of counterbalancing in the shaft).

Where did you get a 90 TX ? I've been looking for an 80 TX and that's hard enough finding for a new fairway. Also considering throwing a Pro White 80 TX in my new TS3 15 deg.

the 90TX is a normal retail release, on the website and any MRC dealer can get it for you. Not likely many dealers stock it but they can order it.

I could not get along with the TPO 60TX in my driver but randomly took a leap on an F9 Tour Fairway (4/5 set at 16*) paired with the TPO 80TX. So far, I really enjoy hitting this combo. I'm not a huge fairway user but I really look forward to hitting this thing when the opportunity arises. Just like one of the previous users said - very stable flight not much left / right going on.

Which one in the driving iron? Ive been experimenting with some graphite in a 3 iron/driving iron and have never found one that works as well as steel for me, Not sure i'd want it counterbalanced in my driving iron though as it would be tough to swingweight.

80tx tippped 2inches. Its fairly stiff though surprisingly but man, launches so well and flight is strong. Distance wise is on par with a 5wd

I insisted to get a d2 sw in line with my long irons and my fitter made it happen while perserving the maximum length

No dice

Old thread but, I’m playing the Pro Orange in my g410 5 wood.  Absolute stunner combo for me.  Mid launch low spin but feels pretty smooth for having such a stiff tip.  Feels similar to the white to me, with maybe a little more action in mid section.  I’m actually looking for one to go in the 3 as well
