New Mizuno irons coming - Tour Proto Pics

Careful with that optimizer. It can be hit or miss, no way I can play X100’s hard stepped but it was the #1 recommended shaft for me

Mizuno North America showed a picture in an Instagram post. There was a comment asking about left handed version of the new iron. Response was "just be patient."

They also confirmed "more to come during the Open week."

Sit tight everyone. This is going to be tremendous.....Lots of other brands chatter now which is fine. All good things come to those who wait. Nothing and I mean nothing beats Mizzy's grain flow forging process along with other delectables they'll throw in. I can almost taste a pure 7 iron shot to the green as the leaves start to change in color. We're almost in the dog days of summer so stay the course for now so just enjoy the season. The Open is going to be legendary on many fronts. Steady.........

Thought they would have looked better had they just let that stay chrome, since it's not the actual weight that makes the color but just them coloring to highlight that it's there.

Ah, sorry my bad, agreed - chrome all the way for me, don’t like the jpx or mp18 look, probably why I’ve not moved from my MP-4s, but these have me interested (assuming no reverse offset too!?)

Hopefully they downsized the scoring irons , mp18 wedge looks like a semi on the end of the shaft compared to mb716

Definitely intrigued... I picked up my first set of Mizunos ever end of last year, MP18 MMC (5 and 6 are Fli Hi model). These are so good for my bogey golf game. I'd be very interested to see if they release updated MMC model that were a _hair_ smaller in short irons, esp. PW. Anyway, eager to see what Mizuno has coming down the pipe.

Along the lines of checking out new clubs, good place to share I went for an iron fitting last week and came away impressed that the recommendation was to NOT change clubs, caveat being he said he'd be happy to sell me anything. For Triangle area NC golfers, that'd be Joel at Golf Etc. in Cary near Preston. I'd give Joel highest recommendation, he was patient and we tried various combinations of shaft and iron heads. I had $ burning a hole in my pocket but he basically talked me out of buying new just to do it. We adjusted lie angles on all my MMCs, and loft on 3 of them. Therefore, I'm inclined to at least test an MP20 MMC if enough difference to change.

I feel the same way - also in MMC currently.

Did you adjust loft and lie because they were off from spec or because fitting suggested you need adjustments from standard?

I purchased the irons from an ebay seller with high feedback, the auction stated that they were 2 degrees flat but that seller would adjust per buyer's request. I asked for them to be standard lie. Not surprisingly, I guess, it appears he didn't adjust them. Joel measured before we even went in the hitting bay and they were 2 degrees flat. After hitting a dozen or so with 7 iron, he suggested adjusting and first shot after adjustment revealed a clear difference. Ball flight had been starting right and straightening, true to live action with the irons as shots tend to play right. After adjustment it started and stayed straight mostly, noticeably more consistent (straighter). Won't have a chance to play the newly adjusted MMCs until next weekend but hopeful it will translate to the course.

I'll reiterate that for a fitter who owns a business to stop me from buying new, that says a lot. If Mizuno brings out an updated MMC, I will for sure visit Joel and Golf Etc. in Cary again with the willingness to find my fit and buy a set built for me.

I don’t see how any of that is actual “confirmation.” They’ve been saying be patient since mp-69 for us.

I make it that people really love color fill on the mass removed. If you gave me an MD3 that felt Mizuno butter soft, but still performed as I wanted, sign me up.

Yeah if these are the new T20s (or whatever they’re going to be called), hard pass for me and a big disappointment.

I'm going to stick with my s18's for a while. Just bought a new back up 60° cheap.

I fill the holes with tungsten anyways, not a huge deal for me. Then again, nothing really swings like a vokey. Wish Mizuno made vokey killers

Passing based on a photo of the back of a wedge? That makes no sense to me.

Love my S18’s. What is the release cycle for the new wedges? Should be this year, right? Those pictures are um, not attractive.

People pass on clubs all the time based on looks. It is what it is. I love Mizuno, I play mp54s and s18 wedges. These look like knockoff Callaways to me. There's people who don't like the look of the s18 wedges, its okay.

Okay so I think I’m on to something here. So hear me out.....

All 5 wedges are posted on the conforming site, though every loft is on that list, the only picture that keeps popping up is the 58 degree lob wedge. I think Mizuno is drilling out a certain amount of holes depending on the loft of that wedge and how much discretionary weight needs to be placed elsewhere to maintain spin and consistent yardages. For instance, the 50 degree wedge may only have 2 holes drilled out and weight will be placed in different spots of the blade etc....

I think Mizuno is on to something here and everyone needs to sit tight until we hear the story. This could be something big, Mizuno wedges are EXTREMELY UNDERRATED, when it comes to spin and feel, they have always been at the top of their class.

I get that people pass on clubs due to looks. But this is 1 black and white picture! If this was a whole series of pics like we see Greg and other Golf WRX photographers take where you get pretty much all angles of the club then, yeah, I could understand saying the club doesn’t fit your eye. I think back to the first pics of the P760 irons. There were a lot of people trashing the looks after only a couple pics of the back cavity. Once the full photo array was released, many people’s tunes changed.
