Well, I imagine that this is finally toe-in-water. If the Eye2 wedges sell like world-beaters, they may bring back that shape. I personally think it's an odd look, and I would pass. Irons are too good to go back to that eccentricity. Wedges, sure, there's a market.

14 Pings. Blueprints are incredibly good. Fetch is the most underrated putter on the market. Don't @ me.

I believe there's a market but for golfers who grew up playing these irons and watched professionals play them as well. I'm sure there's a few who are chapped that would like to continue playing Eye2 irons but the restrictions limit those who participate in USGA sanctioned events. Yes I agree they are an acquired taste as far as looks go but aside from that, the Eye2 preformed flat out awesome! If Ping decided to recreate them with conforming specs I'd truly be shocked if they weren't a huge success, even in current new looks. They brought out the one off Anser Forged iron for a spell, they could at least bring out a trial run of these and see how they sell? Speaking for myself I'd be in line to buy a set.

The Ping Eye 2 irons and wedges of old worked so well because they were so ugly the ball couldn’t wait to get away from them. I love those irons. Something about that gnarly look gave me confidence. As for these 3.0 wedges, the round leading edge is a bit offputting for me but I love that high toe. I’m going to give them a try.

"Aside from the rounding at the top, it looks like they added more rounding near the hosel and added another groove at the bottom.

Guess it's time to order the old ES versions before they are gone. Don't like the new shapes."

I like 2.0 over 3.0 wish all of these had notches in the hosel because notches are cool. I have to wonder with all of the Japanese products cutting down on hosel length why wouldn't Ping follow suit? I bet ol Karsten would agree w/me let's shorten hosel's if we can. Seems like JDM are shorting hosels on forged irons. And that Callaway, Ping, and Cleveland have all claimed some performance benefits from shortening hosel length recently. Wonder if this would be an opportunity with these new wedges?

Again I like Glides and Glide 2.0's because I like the way they look and how they've performed for me.

Concerning as 3.0 I only like the eye2 version just a matter of taste. Very curious if there are any performance benefits compared to Glides or 2 any of the Eye2's aside from the hydrophobic finish? wink

As far as the rerelease of eye2's I'm having some trouble following that wish? I'm pretty certain that Ping has already tried it twice relatively recently in 2010 and 2014 with both the XG then the Gorge.

Now I can't speak to the molds they used but I think those are eye2's with conforming grooves.

All which speaks to the delicate dance that this "copy" of a copy game entails Callaway, Touredge, Taylormade, Wilson and all of the others can be inspired by but when Ping releases or tries to improve the "real deal" it meets the market with possibly tepid response.

None the less thanks to Bernhard Langer and Steve Stricker for inspiring me to better know what I want in my bag. I want cool guy clubs that work. Not too much fuss, shiny of course is good.

Seems to me that this version of eye2 inspired glide 3 could possibly have some benefits?

Maybe the insert can help "sound/feel" maybe weight in high toe could positively effect playability.

Admittedly this is all speculation on my part but that's a huge part of what drives this business and many of our tastes if were honest.

Cool new stuff yeah!

Anyone have a solid idea on the release date or pre-order date on these, spec options, or even when demos might be avaliable? Thinking of a SS GW and TS LW with the new Project X black shafts, hoping they will be an custom option.

All good. Someone please correct me if I'm off, but I think it's gone eye, eye2, i3, i5, i10, i15, i20, i25, i(e1), i200, i210, and likely the next will be an i225 if it follows the trademarking that skips from 410 -> 425 to avoid the 420 and colour scheme of dank green.

The ES or Eye 2 grind is so polarizing. It almost looks like on the Glide 2.0 they gave you about 70% of the (real, original) Eye 2 grind, they just muted the full treatment a bit to make it a bit more pleasing to the masses. For the 3.0 it looks like they are giving the real deal back to those who want it, more offset and more rounding. And like someone else pointed out with the PM grind and the Hi-toe (I believe it's the ATV grind that is the most offset, most rounded for the TM line), to some extent everyone is offering something like this now. It's nice to have options.

The comments about non conforming grooves are right in that after a certain period of time they couldn’t be used in competition. But that only applies to the square grooved models. The last couple of years and before the lawsuit was settled Ping made conforming Eye2s (with the original molds not the + molds that flopped open at address). They were identified by a shallow hole created by a drill tip in the cavity. But by then the popularity was starting to wane. I had a set of BeCu with conforming grooves. While the iron sets kind of fell off the LW and SW remained a hot item for years. A club pro bought my set 1-LW for $1,500 and promptly tossed the 1-9 irons (which some alert caddies scooped up).. He later told me he sold the Wedges to a Tour Pro for $2,000.
