Wood or Plastic Tees - Which do You Prefer?

Recommended Posts

For par 3, I go wood all the time. Something about the firmer plastic makes me think it will provide some kind of weird resistance to the club when they make contact. For driver I'll use plastic but since I buy bags of 100 wood ones every few months, I normally just use wood. I probably go through 12-15 tees per round... but I get really annoyed when the plastic ones start to bend so I still probably use 3-4 plastic ones per round, too.

Most plastic tees aren't firm enough when the tee boxes are really hard. I hate those.

But there are a few kinds of plastic ones (the "Evolution" brand for instance) that are as stiff as wooden ones. At least in the 2-3/4" size I use. That's the best of both worlds. Nigh unbreakable but still usable on hard tee boxes.

The bendy, weak plastic ones are just pants.

I use the 4 More Yards tees for the driver because I think they provide the best combination of hard stem and soft plastic for the top.

Can't say they provide more yards though.

I am a traditionalist and prefer wood tees. I am not that much of a traditionalist that I would create a sand mound to tee my ball (hickory club days). Besides, I have about 500 wood tees to use from a bag of 1000 I got several years ago. :D

As mentioned earlier, my last few rounds I've been using a batch of white "Evolution" tees I picked up super cheap recently on eBay (logo misprints and overruns). They are nigh unbreakable and stiff enough to easily punch into a firm tee box.

Last Sunday I lost one for the first time. With "lost" meaning it wasn't visible in a quick 30-second scan of the tee box while putting my driver back in the bag. I was momentarily bummed about it then an image of my box back home brimming with 500 Evolution tees popped in my head and I was strangely comforted. Best 11 bucks I've spent lately!

Then as I was walking away one of the others in my foursome handed it to me and said, "Here's your tee, it was over here in the rough". So that's 2-1/2 cents saved right there...

> Most tees that clubs provide (that aren’t wood) are not plastic. Companies such as Evolve make their tees from corn starch and are in fact biodegradable.

Evolve only did that early on with the epoch tees, but the biodegradable material wasn’t durable enough. They moved to recyclable plastics over 10 years ago.

However, those justifying wood tees for ecological reasons should consider the equivalent number of trees needed to source wood tees each year. Plastic tees while not ideal from a waste perspective are far more durable and typically last much longer than wood as long as people remember them which drastically cuts down on volume (Evolve claims an average of 6 wood tees to 1 plastic tee per round).

Wood, those professional tee system 3.25" white and blue ones. All I care is that I can tee them the same height every time, those blue marks are awesome. For about 8 bucks on amazon I get a bag that usually lasts 3-4 seasons. Luckily quite a few people at my club must use them too because I tend to find quite a few. For par 3's and teeing off with a 3 wood, any broken tee I find laying around.

Same. The teeing areas at a lot of courses I play are pretty firm and I've had buddies with plastic tees ask me for some of my wooden ones more than a few times.

I coughed up $20 for [these](https://amazon.com/gp/product/B07D8YJXJQ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1) and figure I'm good to go for quite a while.

Orange Martini tee, I just carry one tee and never seem to lose it. Take that back...I do carry short..sharp red plastic tee for par 3's. OK..two tees is all I carry.

Martini's don't seem to fly all over the place like other plastic tees I've used?? Woods fine but get tired of going through so many a round.

Recently switched over to plastic because I was breaking wood tees just about every time I hit driver. Probably symptomatic of a poor driver swing but ¯\\_(ツ)_/¯
