Anybody single club tinkering? Srixon U85?

Mostly I don't make a lot of changes unless I have a clear goal. That's almost like being a unicorn on this forum. I'm pretty happy with my line-up except for one club that I'm only giving a "B". I'm a mid-handicapper (13), but I'm hoping to improve despite a bout of the yips. To get through a frustrating period, I am concentrating on improving my swing and I'm happy with the progress. I am finding that hitting good shots as I picture them is a drug. Given that, my 4 hybrid is the weak sister. It fills a gap, but it feels very one dimensional. It doesn't sound great, unlike my 3 hybrid, which I would strongly consider buying in the 4 of the same model if I could find a lightly used one, since Adams is around anymore. My 3 hybrid I can flight it down a little and make it scoot, but I can also hit it higher. A normal swing produces a very pleasing mid-trajectory. For my 4 hybrid I just want to hit it slightly softer landing when I want to, but I also miss long irons. I want to lace a few, like when I was younger. I also know I will never carry a 2 iron or even a 3 iron ever again. So I want a 4 hybrid that perhaps shade towards soft and high, but I can pierce it into the wind when I need to. Based on what I'm trying to do, would it make sense to go to something like the Srixon U85 in the appropriate loft? Is it easy to hit a high fade? It sure looks like one I could flight it down. Or should I just improve on the current hybrid? Opinions?

I just hit mine on the course for the first time yesterday. I only tried it once, but I could not hit a fade with it yesterday. It just goes straight. I'll have to check it out at the range again to be sure though.

Why not just by an adams hybrid off here or ebay? Should be an easy and cheap experiment... if you have a local golf store, they should have plenty in their used club section...

Hell, I think I have one in my golf locker with a stiff flex and I think 22 degrees. I'll send you pictures if you are interested.

Nice work! Hope it works out for you... I'm loving the 18 degree hybrid I have in my bag (from the classified)... the hybrid in storage is one I picked up at the golf store... I actually need to figure out where I left my J40 hybrid too...

Sounds to me that you're looking for a shaft you really enjoy. I'd start there.

The fact that you're going away from a design that you love in your 3 hybrid. NOT that there's anything WRONG with that but seems you're headed for the long way around.

Fastest solution might be to buy the matching 4hybrid.

If you can't stand how beat up it is then send out to be repainted if you send your 3 and 4 both then you'll have 2 "new" looking clubs that likely perform EXACTLY as you want. for you for less than the cost of 1 failed new 4hybrid experiment.

Starting with the U85 or anything else opens up an entirely new can of works from head design, to shaft length to shaft fit to playing characteristics etc.

Fun is fun but to satisfy the problem as described not sure that's the way to go. Another way to go would be to MEASURE the characteristics of the 3hybrid and then buy a 4hybrid based on those parameters.

Fwys and grns!

Good advice regarding finding the right shaft. I'm probably taking the long way around, but I'm glad I'm working on changing it out. I stuck with the current one for too long.

Thanks for the opinions everyone.

I’m putting my money on the Adams... especially if it has the right shaft.
