Best custom putter for the money ?

In my opinion it’s Bettinardi. You can do so many things. They have a lot of logos you can choose from, and even put your own twist on them. So many finishes, necks, stamps, and now faces etc etc. They can do a lot of crazy stuff no one has a clue about.

I bought my first Bettinardi in 2000 and I love their putters. I have owned at least one all these years and usually more. There is not many models I have not owned at some point. Now they are just too expensive. Their custom putters start at 2K and go up from there. No putter is worth that much including the 009! It's a customer rip-off. Swag just proved a putter can be as good as any made or better for a fraction of the prices some manufacturers are asking. JMHO and experience.

I like swag just fine. I have a suave one in my bag right now. I’m not trying to throw shade at anyone. But I don’t think they really fit in the custom maker category as they operate right now. And I certainly would not rate them as a best for the money proposition.

 

I think of them more as a boutique/limited run manufacturer who may offer some custom opportunities from time to time. There’s nothing wrong with this, but you can’t just get on the phone and order up whatever you want like you can with Lajosi, Byron, Mills, Mann etc. etc. Also you are definitely looking at 4 figures on the bottom end of a custom job IF you had the opportunity and a base model with all the guys listed above probably starts at half that.

I agree they are not an order what you want putter maker. My mistake looking at more than on thread at a time. Evidentually they did offer some customization. I do love their putters and now have one or two Bettinardi putters which are flawless and one Byron Morgan that's as good as any putter I have ever owned. I am not aiming to start another collection, just putters that get the ball into the hole. I have no plans on any more putters at this time.

For under $500 I would say Kingston or Black Lab. Black Lab is the best deal in "custom" putters in my opinion. I have a BL1 and BL7 and nothing has knocked the BL7 out of the bag for ~2 years. I do like Kingston's Anser style a smidge better than my BL1 but enjoy both for different reasons.

 

Another option would be to find an original Cameron Newport or Newport 2 and get it refinished. The original gun blue or AOP versions were perfect and in my opinion the versions since are nowhere near as good (except the 009 model).

Last I inquired it was around $300 and 3 weeks.

This is correct. Both of mine were around $300. Both putters arrived at my door ~2 weeks after ordering.

Just got a Black Lab BL-1 and loving it. Best looking Anser shape I've ever tried. Moved on from a Newport...
