A good problem to have

So..... a little about my golf game. Driver swing speed avg around 118, 7 iron avg 98. I’ve been using the Vice pro plus balls for a while and like them but as I’ve gotten better I have been spinning them wayyyyyy to much and ripping every wedge that hits a green off of it.

I really love the yellow ball, it’s easier for me to track, find when I hit it off line, and like that it’s different.

I’m not concerned about the longest ball, idk about 5 yards either way n distance, I care about how they react on the green from mid irons (hold the green) and wedges ( spin n stop but not crazy ripping off green spin).

I recently bought a 3 pack of pro v1, pro v1x, avx, z-star, and snell Mtbx.

1. Any yellow balls that I missed or should test

2. What ball are you high swing speed players using and why?

Going to start my testing Friday but wanted to here what the wrx crowd has to say.

Throw Bridgestone Tour B X and TP5x in there too if you can. TP5x is an awesome all around ball that some complain about not spinning enough with irons. Sounds like you probably won't have that problem.

Likely not too much help but IMO the pre spin skin Srixon Z Star XV and 2016 B330 would be $. Those two balls performed similarly and spin the least off full and partial wedges vs. just about any other Urethane cover ball I've tried. They still had ample spin into the green, but were not crazy spinny. I don't play on really firm or fast greens, so I prefer a ball that will check and hold or even release a touch vs. spin back and the above two listed balls are amongst the best I've played and are Monsters off the tee!

Anything helps, I thought the z star Xv was a higher launching ball with similar spin to the z star, am I off base there.

So far the mtb-x and pro v are in the lead.

I love how the react on the green with wedge shots from 60-125, pretty much a one big hop and stop or spin back just to the pitch mark. Both balls preformed extremely well into wind as well.

Avx and z star are out. Z star felt great and I liked the ball but to spinny on wedge shots for me.

AVX is not the right ball for me, I didn’t like how it felt coming off any club, seemed to ballon into the wind.

Going to get a sleeve of the z star XV soon and will compare that to my lead dogs and go from there.

I think the TP5X is probably the best ball out and I also spin the crap out my wedges. I would say the MTB models are next best.

_Edit: Did you try the regular MTB? Some reason that ball plays better for me vs the MTBx. Better spin control._

TP5 is not made n yellow so it’s out off the bat for me, tried the mtb, good but not as good as my front runners.

The z star Xv is a monster, I really liked everything about that ball. Played in twenty ish mph wind today with it and it didn’t disappoint. Didn’t ballon once, held the green on all approach shots (that hit the green ha).

Going to put the xv n pro v head to head next round n hopefully be done with this project n have a ball for a long while.

If you want to get better learn to control spin. Half shots and flight will do more for you than a mythical perfect ball.

Surprisingly, Volvik XT might be a good golf ball for your game. You have to club head speed to make these behave and not over spinning it. Plus it won;t break the bank.

I ended up going with the pro v, just hit everything I was looking for, didn’t hurt that lost golf ball had a sale for 5A mint yellows for 19.99 a dozen!

 

Flighting wedges n all shots really is what my last lesson was on. It’s a work in progress but seeing results!
