Had a couple special rounds the last couple days...

A golf buddy of mine who's an Elvis impersonator and I teamed up to win the men's flite at our club's 4th of July tournament. That was a shock, because I putted like c***. But, 2 days later we had a tournament to memorialize the man who started our men's group. Once again, 2-man teams were put together and my partner happened to be the previous President of the Northern California Golf Association. I've met Tom and spoke with him briefly in the past a couple times. But, this was my biggest, "Don't top it off the first tee..." moments yet. Somehow I put together the best ball-striking round of my life that day. Just hammered it, making the front fringe on all our par 5s in two. Played out of my head. Putting still sucked. We didn't place, but did fine. Afterwards Tom said, "I'm really impressed with your strength. You can really hit the ball a long way." That was quite cool. Possibly the most enjoyable round I've had. It was very nice to pay our respects to our group's founder with all the guys afterwards, too. Golf can be very good...

What was your recent "don't top it" moment?...

We had qualifying for our club championship starting last week. Last year, things were running a little behind, so there were two other foursomes, plus the head pro and assistant pro, behind the tee box watching us tee off. My turn to hit comes up, and I absolutely crush (edit: for me) my drive. Problem is, I also yanked it about 30 degrees offline to the left. As it's flying toward the parking lot, everyone sees a pickup truck heading toward the exit of the parking lot, which narrows down to a single lane about 260 yards away from the tee box. Everyone else jumps onto the tee box, yelling "come on, come on!" Sure enough, it goes right into the back of the pickup on the fly. Guy hits the brakes briefly, and just keeps going.

 

This year, same situation, multiple groups waiting to tee off, head pro decides to tell the story while my group is on the tee. My only goal was to get off the tee box without yanking one into the parking lot. Wound up putting my ball about 250 out, a couple feet into the rough on the opposite side of the hole.
