Fake Scotty Cameron at Play it Again Sports

Is that fake, or just a REALLY bad refinish/custom job?

Did you alert the store if you suspected it was fake? I am no expert on Camerons, but the stampings actually look about right.

Never seen one with a sound slot cut all the way through the head where you could see right through it, especially a Newport 2 model. The sight dot and sight line are not in line with each other. Plus the head weight is way light. Finally look at the metal where the paint is chipped away.

Even if they knew it was fake, they wouldn’t care. It would still be $179.95.

That’s not a fake. That’s someone who experimented with this putter before doing work on something else most likely. All of the reasons you listed as fakes are all modifications that can be made to a putter with. That was originally just the satin head that someone painted black (that’s why it chips so easily and doesn’t resemble the wear that a factory black Scotty would). They also drilled a sight line (a hack job no doubt but no one faking this putter is going with a sight dot), the sound slot and face milling were 100% hack jobs (again anyone going through the effort to fake this putter isn’t going to mill a sound slot). The circle t weights were purchased on eBay. The headweight is off because of all the weight lost from milling the sound slot and the face. All of the stampings look correct. Real putter.

It’s a real putter that someone jacked up in their home laboratory. To me it’s worth zero dollars, and if Play it Again has that for sale for money they’re not even trying.

It’s fake. If you zoom in on the lettering on the face you can see the face milling was done prior to the words. u5umbsvem45x.png

I disagree. IMO you can see spots in the letters where you can tell the re-milling has taken out parts of the letters, particularly the bottom of the R, the middle left of the E and the bottom right of the O.

it's real with a heck of a lot of aftermarket work done to it. i wouldn't pay no more than $25 for it and send it to BOS golf to get restored.

Was thinking the same thing. Looks real and got a hack job by someone that didn’t know what they were doing.

Exactly... It's pretty clear to me that the face milling has been exaggerated from the original and has taken parts of the letters away. It's completely jacked up but lots about it actually look legit if you can see past all the horror.
