I gave him a 50/50 chance of winning before the end of the year. The swing is money where it counts and oddly enough I love watching it. The downside is that people with equally "unusual" swing will use his as justification to never improve or get help with their equally "unusual" but infinitely less effective swings. The fun thing will be watching people try to emulate it.

I was thinking the same thing. Hopefully that won't happen. Wolff and DeChambeau both have unorthodox approaches to their shots. The idea shouldn't be to imitate their shots, but to find your own swing and own it.

What a great back nine yesterday. Edge of your seat stuff.

What I saw is that he has that “ it” factor. That I won’t quit type attitude. Not every player has that. Swing is the swing. No problem with how it looks. Don’t care about positions etc. I look for fire. Fire is what wins majors. Pouring a eagle in on top of an eagle is nails. I don’t care who you are. He struck me as one of those kids we’d rarely see in track meets. Their personal best depended more on the competition than their own ability. In other words. Give them a rabbit to chase. And they’d catch it. No matter how fast. Who knows where the ceiling is. Will be fun to watch this kid.

Basically he can play the remaining tournaments on tour this season (with the exception of the Open and WGC that have their own qualifying of course). Doc Redman who finished 2nd last weekend in Detroit did the same thing. As long as they earn more Fed Ex points than the golfer who finished in 125th place in the FedEx standings they will earn PGA membership at the end of the season. Morikawa, however, will not be eligible for this season's playoffs unless he wins a tournament. Obviously Wolff will now be eligible for the FedEx playoffs, Masters, etc with his win.

Yep, I had Morikawa in my post originally then edited him out because I thought his special temporary status just gives him "unlimited sponsor's invites" so he'd still use it. But you're right, the top 10 finish means he wouldn't need it.

Congrats to Wolff! That was a great finish!

I think it's going to be be exciting as the "launch monitor" generation starts to take over and the "video" generation starts to age. We will likely start to see more quirky swings that were built as juniors solely around what works and not what looks pretty. Couple that with the "hit it far, straighten it out later" mentality most junior golfers are being taught and we will really get some great talent coming up with instructors that will know how to work with their natural quirks.

Wolff, granted an unusual swing, but in a way it was like watching an reincarnation of Arnold Palmer. Palmer's swing was not pretty, but it was effective. The school of smash and find it and smash it again. Plus the "no guts no glory" approach to the game is alive and well with Wolff. It will be interesting to see how he does in the future.

I'm not normally a CBS or NBC TV basher. I enjoy all the media personalities on each station's golf telecast. I'm a golf nut who enjoys watching golf. But CBS's coverage the last few years has been downright terrible. It actually angers me what they have done. The lack of showing golf shots. The unnecessary commercialization. It's like showing actual golf is second stage to what the rest of the coverage is. I don't watch the coverage anymore until the last few holes. Something has to change, but CBS doesn't seem to want to. We all bashed Fox at first, but they probably have the best coverage now. I'd rank them Fox, CBS, Golf Channel, and a distant CBS.
