J33 460 w/ Comp NT

Anyone use this combo?

I tried a couple of different searches but didn't find much so....

Has anyone played the Comp NT shaft in the J33 head?
I dont much care for the feeling of the NV shaft. I swing at 95mph and the R flex feels loose even though the results are okay.
Reading the reviews, seems like the R flex NT will play firm and still not give an overly high ball flight. I tend to need a low spin mid launch shaft and sounds like a good fit.

Any info would be appreciated...

I have a Comp NT 85 stiff in an Adams 460 Dual. My swing speed is 108 MPH for reference. The Comp NT seems to play pretty true to flex, but I have always thought that the NV plays true to flex as well.

 

I also have the J33 460 10.5. I did not care for the NV in that head either (not many people like that combo it seems.) I have a UST V2 75 stiff in there now and it's perfect.

 

With either shaft, find a clubfitter that knows their stuff. From my experience, the J33 head weight is about 204 grams, where as a lot of club on the market weigh in at about 194 grams or so. So the heavier head weight results in making the shaft play softer. I'd go with the stiff flex in either shaft, and have the clubfitter only tip it to get to your desired flex. Both of those shafts were flexing at a "soft" R flex untipped according to my clubfitter, even though they were designated as "stiff" flex. Both shafts have a parallel tip section that is longer to accomodate a bore-thru head. So they NEED to be tipped to play to flex when inserted into a standard hosel. Sounds like an untipped or slightly tipped stiff flex in either shaft would probably work well for you.

 

Both shafts give me a mid/high, flat, powerful trajectory. The UST feels a little smoother to me, but both are great shafts. I didn't think much of the J33 460 with the NV. It came alive after the re-shaft. Great head. Enjoy!

I gave the NV a try a few different times and did not like the feel of them at all. I have always been a fan of Grafalloy Shafts and Love the Comp NT. One of the best shafts I have ever played. I play a stiff flex in my SQ Tour and love it.

Thanks to Mr Divots for explaining to me why the shafts I've played in my J33R seem to play soft. Didn't realize the head was a little heavy. But that explains the D6 swingweight on a 70g shaft at 1/2" over.

 

I didn't like the feel or performance of the NV75 Stiff that came standard with my J33R 8.5*. Even though it is supposed to be a low launch head, I was launching way too high and was putting too much draw on the ball. I reshafted with a PM702 Stiff (tipped 1/2") which is supposed to be a very tip stiff, low launch shaft. My dispersion has improved, but still launching too high and drawing too much.

 

Maybe this head requires a heavier and/or stiffer shaft in order to play at the desired flex and launch angle. I'm trying to figure out what shaft to try next. Really looking for something in the 80g range with a very low launch.

I have a V2 in my MP001 and I like it fine. Not the best "feel" but a very good shaft and the results are excellent. I am just looking to try something different with this head. If the NT doesnt do it, I'll swap my V2 in.

Grafalloy recommends a 1.25" tipping for standard bore heads for which the J33R 460 is. Did you tip your shaft? I find that following Grafalloy's install instruction, they trend towards being slightly stiffer to flex.
