2 Piece Urethane Ball

So other than the Bridgestone e5 (which is no longer being produced), is there another 2 piece urethane ball in existence today? Seems like it would work for a majority of the golfing population. I'm thinking a Callaway Supersoft (or any other 2 piece offering) with a urethane cover. I bet they would sell like crazy. Thoughts?

Really? I never used a 2 piece urethane ball. I would have thought the opposite as in less spin off the driver and full irons and more bite around the greens.

Spin separation (lower on full shot, especially driver and high on partial shot, especially wedges) is the reason multilayer urethane balls exist. It doesn't work to make a very soft 1pc core (like a SuperSoft or Duo) to reduce spin and then add a urethane cover to add spin back.

The cores in those old 2pc urethane balls had to be quite firm so you ended up with a classic performance of spinning more the harder it is hit. Even without urethane, back in the day you could get really soft Surlyn covers on firm cores in a 2pc ball. They were terrible, spin off the planet on full swings and poor control around the greens. Making the cover urethane only improved matters very slightly.

I don't know the details of what is and isn't possible in golf ball design. But the fact that nobody (to my knowledge) has ever sold a 2pc urethane cover ball that had good spin separation properties OR that had a soft compression tells me it must not be possible. Because otherwise, somebody would be selling it. Just about everything else under the sun has shown up in the golf ball market at some point.

You're right, everything else has shown up in the market. I guess what you mentioned above is why the e5 no longer exists. I never hit them so I don't have any experience with a 2 piece urethane ball.

I always thought that playing a "pro" ball would hurt me as well as a higher handicapper, but I honestly haven't found that to be the case. The Q Star Tour has been a great ball for me, likewise with the Project (a) once it got past the first generation. I usually don't buy them simply because I still hit a lot of errant shots so I'm fine with $20-$25/dozen balls. But I never noticed them going offline any worse than a 2 piece "budget" ball.

Last year I found golfjet balls on amazon and decided to try them. Urethane balls, got the 3 and 4 piece models. I really liked them other than the fact they seemed to scuff kind of easy. Last week, I saw on amazon, they had a new 2 piece urethane model come out. So those showed up and now I gotta wait for winter in Michigan to be over to try them. But for 16 bucks delivered, I figured why not.
