Is the 2019 ProV1 a terrible ball?

I strongly second this.

Pro V1x spins more like the TP5. Whereas TP5X spins less which makes it more similar to the Pro V1.

I haven’t tried this years V1 but got a sleeve of X to try Saturday for a round and I just can’t believe how hard they are. The last X I liked was the 2013 version and ever since then the ball has gone the wrong direction for ME. I played the 2017 V1 and didn’t find it to be anything special.

Obviously the balls perform extremely well, I’d just rather play TP5 or Z Star or B XS personally.

Goes to show ya.

I hate hard balls and have always played the softer side of balls before reading the MySpy findings on soft vs firmer balls. Since, i have been playing both ProV 1 and Pro V 1x and I can’t even tell much difference. Slightly firmer, but I mean slightly. I do not feel it’s even on the firmer side of balls that I have played in the past.

I have to agree. I played last year's TP5 and X. The current versions are a step backwards and the new ProV series surpass them in almost every way.

I've been playing the Z star for about 6 years. 2 years ago when everyone came out with new balls for 2017 I did some testing and essentially determined that all these tour balls are very good (I picked the Z star based on price, color and they did seem a bit more durable than ProV1's). This spring I tested again the 2019 models... the differences are so small I just don't get the outlandish criticism you sometimes see like "the TP5X is as hard as a Pinnacle and gets no greenside spin". I go out and test the TP5, TP5X, Z star, Zstar XV, ProV1, ProV1x on 15 and 30 yard chips and pitches and the differences are within the margin of error for me (as the holder of the golf club). Maybe one might roll out an extra 1-3 feet... which is something that is either extremely hard to control or (for crying out loud) just land the damn ball 2 feet shorter next time. It's such a small difference. Based on the MyG Spy findings I've switched over to the XV. It feels a tiny bit harder but after a few minutes of practice it easily becomes the new normal. Whether or not I get a couple yards of extra driving distance... who knows... but the ball is never the problem IMO.

We just seem to love what the pro’s get paid for playing. I’ll say my experience with proVs is not spectacular. I simply don’t prefer them.

One thing I have noticed is that Titleist has a commercial they run regularly about how many players are using their ball in a tournament. It goes something like “130 players out of 165 in this tournament are playing the ProV1 ball”. The problem is that usually the top ten finishers will include 4 or 5 players playing the ZStar. Not exactly a good percentage. Not that that proves anything.

People really have a hard time conceding the Pro V1 balls are really solid golf balls in all facets of performance. Sure, Titleist pays loads of players to use their balls however even more use it without compensation. If your living was based on your performance wouldn’t you use the best gear you can get your hands on? Best performance is even more important considering the golf ball is on used every single shot! The notion that a player would take tee up money over better performance strikes me as absurd. O

Have been playing Bridgestone B330 Tour for a few years but getting harder to find. Hit some of the 2019 ProV1x the other day and was really impressed. Similar driver distance to the Bridgestone but better iron/wedge performance for me.

I've heard people I play golf with talk about the sound a certain *driver* makes being really loud. **But can't recall anyone specifically complaining about the sound a certain ball makes.** And don't get me started on reviews which start with the sound a ball makes with the putter!

I'm in general agreement with you with one notable exception - Volvik S3 White Color. I played that ball for a while because I found it to have incredible greenside control. But the sound it made coming off of my driver was insane. Like Nike Sumo driver insane. Not all balls sound the same but most are satisfactory IMO. With that one exception.
