Hit about 15 balls into the trees today

It’s not as bad as it sounds though. My golf buddy has gone to Japan so I decided to use today as a bit of an experiment. The course was quiet, so I hired a buggy and started trying out loads of stuff that I wouldn’t normally do in a round. I played 32 holes, many of them with three balls in play, four sometimes. Both of my drivers off the tee on many holes too. Was trying shaping, forward in stance, back of stance, punching and all sorts of flops, high cuts, bump and runs...

 

Actually quite refreshing, but I got to the point that I had to spend 10 minutes in the trees to restock my supply as it was getting low and I wasn’t ready to go home!

 

Learned a few things.

U played about 100 holes. Am guessing the 'loads of stuff you normally don't do' is hit trees? Sounds like a great day to me.

I hit plenty of trees, just don’t normally lose a bucketload!

Sounds like you need to put the driver away or plenty of practice with it! Haha.

Days like that are great! I recently posted a thread here about "what if I could take as much time as the tour pros to analyze each shot?" Well, about a week later I got out on our course when it was 104 degrees and I had the place to myself. Actually walked with my pull cart (and sun umbrella). Shot the best golf so far this year, and probably second best outing ever for me. It's nice to be able to experiment. I mainly took the time to really study each putt and had many 1-putts as a result. Cool beans...

Last time out, I was in the trees too many times, and every one made loud, solid contact with a trunk or large branch. I even had one bounce back at me, landing 5 yards to the right(in the fairway, fortunately). By the end of the round, "Got wood?" was the saying of the day.

I don't even carry 15 balls. Had 4 with me yesterday. lol

Sounds like a great day to me. I really like it when I can play alone and work on my swing and even try new things (re: fading, drawing, etc.) as you apparently did. Don't know how you got up the next morning though after that many holes and swings.

A quiet course is a god send, always play better when there is nobody behind you.

I've done that, but without so many balls at once. i'll even drop balls where the stance would not be flat. down hill, uphill, ball above/below my feet, combination of each...basically ground that is not flat. hard to practice those types of shots at the range.

Nice work. As someone who constantly punches out of the trees, keep your hips in a finish position, swing back, and power through, should bend a little bit right to left and stay about 4-6 feet off the ground!

Great way to spend a day. I'm lucky enough to get to do that on a semi-regular basis. My club doesn't see a ton of play during the day Tuesday-Thursday (Monday as well if they're not hosting an outside tournament). I work from home, and if I'm ahead of schedule on my current project, I can just slip out and play 9, sometimes 18. Sometimes I'll pair up with someone and play a regular round, but I'll usually go out by myself, play multiple balls, work on new stuff, etc.

I don’t buy new balls anyway, just job lots off a couple of Facebook golf forums. Works out at about 50p per ball for perfect condition Callaway Supersoft. Does the job nicely.
