What wedges do you keep in your bag?

Not much of an exciting topic, but if you're like me, you find these clubs special. I've always wondered what wedges everyone commonly prefers to have in there bag. I personally carry 56 and 60 degree Cleveland wedges that were made about 15 years ago as they were the first that were given to me in my first golf set and I still use them to this day. I also find that they are also the most commonly used wedge degrees. I do however love having a 52 degree for certain par 3's because of the loft and distance it's able to carry. I was turned on to it by a buddy of mine who I started playing with a few months back. He let me use it the first couple times we played together and I decided I had to get one for myself just because of how versatile it is for my style of play. Great for lay ups, lobs from 120 yards out, bump and runs, distance bunkers, etc. I actually prefer it to a pitching wedge in most cases. However, I learned to play with the 56 and 60 and my short game is shaped around those two clubs. My 60 is my most used club as I feel more confident with my chips onto the green and I get a better open feel when hitting out of the bunkers with it than my 56 sand wedge. If you had to carry two wedges for the rest of your life, what would they be (degree, make, model) and why?

I used to do everything with my 56 & 60. I play blades with a PW @ 47. My wedges consist now consist of 50, 53, 56, 58. I been practicing a lot of short game in the last year or 2 and now use all my wedges. I mostly use my 50, 53 for bump and runs or inclines. my 56 is very versatile. I seldom use my 58 unless I'm playing very fast green and have little room to work with so essentially only certain courses. For my typical courses, I'm using a lot of 56 mixed in with 53 then 50 with almost no 58 usage. Now that I use less lofted wedges green side, I can play smaller swings and have less chance of blading across the green like I used to do a lot.

I don't carry a wood so I use that spot for an extra wedge. I play driver and 2 hybrid @ 18 degrees.

Wow a 2hy is an interesting choice. I don't see that club talked about in many forums. I must imagine that your iron game is stellar if you have a gap between your 2hy and 4 iron with no woods between. I'm interested to try different wedges as I know my swing works great with them. My next purchase is probably going to be a 50. I try to keep a 4 degree loft difference between my wedges as I don't think the 2 degree difference affects my play enough to keep that deviation in my bag.

Currently 47° 0311T PW then Taylormade MG 52°, 58° ... the 52° I'll use for full 110 shots down to chipping and pitching, 58° is for bunkers and escape shots and shorter pitches. I can stop both pretty quick most of the time so the choice tends to just come down to distance.

Hi Kyle, If you really play 15 yr old wedges, and you like them, I wouldn’t hang around WRX too long. Wedges are like life: infinite diversity in infinite combinations.

Currently playing a 52/58 setup. This is with a 47 PW. I used to play 54/60, but found having the 52 is more versatile for my game than the 54, and being able to eek out a few more yards from my lob is nice on the occasion I take a full swing with it. The gaps are better too

I have the Callaway Apex Pro 2014 PW at 48, Cleveland 588 RTX 2 in 52 with 8 bounce, 56 with 14 bounce and 60 with 6 bounce.

I couldn't live without my 52, the sand isn't fluffy enough at our course for the 56 but have recently been using it out of the rough to good effect, and the 60 is used from 50yds and in, but generally only if going up elevations. Anything flat and I'll use the 52 to zip one in for a one hop stop shot.

I started out with a 52 and 58 degree when I was 14. Over the years I've experimented with various lofts, grinds and levels of bounce but for the last few years I've played a 54, tweaked to 53 with 8 degrees of bounce and a 58 with 6 degrees of bounce. Playing golf over here in the Middle East, you have so many types of grass that you never know what lie you're likely to have if you miss the green or have 70-100 yard pitch shot to play. The 53 gives me the confidence to play the 3/4 110 yard shot and also open the face if necessary out of the rough around the greens to use the bounce through impact. The 58 with the lower-ish bounce is great for the hard pan lies you sometimes get in the bunkers here as they dry out relatively quick or even on some courses, the desert waste areas. Both wedges are the Callaway MD 4's which I was kindly gifted by a European Tour player so they have a unique finish to them. Prior to that it was the same set up but with Titleist SM4/5/6's through the years.

PW for full shots at 110-120y, and for a lot of bump and runs.

UW for full shots at 100-110y, slightly open for 90-100y, and the odd chip.

SW for almost all pitches and chips from 80y in and some bunker shots.

58* usually in bunkers, but also used when short-sided and the odd 80y full shot.

64* used sparingly when no other club will do for short-sided, flops and occasionally from a hardpan bunker. Magical club.

PW, 54, 60 all Mizuno, the 54 & 60 are MP-T5, use the 60 on 80% of green side bunker shots and about 40% of chips and short pitches up to around 50 yards, 54 for most everything else up to around 80 yards, then go to PW, used to carry a 50 as well but changed for a 2 iron at 16 degrees cause I need more help in the top end, I miss the 50 but have been learning to manipulate the PW & 54 a lot more, bump and runs with 7, 8, 9 irons have never been my friend.

A good topic for me would be "what wedge sets are in your basement and why?"

I have Ping Stealth 52, 56, 60 SS. I also have 58° ES grind. I just picked up a Vokey 60° K grind jet black that I'm very impressed with. I will use the 60 K exclusively for green side bunkers and rough where I really need the loft and bounce, never for anything else. The 56 is for a specific full swing yardage or for anything else around the green where the loft is needed but I have decent lie. Everything else depends on how much green I have in front of me. Anything from an 8 iron to the 52. For partial shots and full pitches into the green, I only use the 52 or 56 depending on pin location and slope of the green.

I play a course that has very fine fluffy sand. I play another course that has very coarse gravel like sand. I find the K grind works best in fine sand, and the ES grind works best in coarse sand. Both are very good from the rough.

PW 45 - Full Swings for 125-130 carry, soft swings for a predictable 100-105 with less spin than GW, some bump and run chips

GW 50- Full Swings for 110-120 carry, bump and run chips, awkward green side bunkers playing to a flag on the opposite end of the green

SW 54 - Full Swings for 95-105 carry, green side bunkers, slight open face pitches for 65-70 yards, bump and run chips

LW 58 - 3/4 swings for 75-85 yard shots, green side bunkers, short bump and runs, and my favorite shot, tight lie 15-25 yard flops, open it wide and play it off the back foot

set PW @ 46

Mack Daddy 4s in 50-56-62 with same shafts as my irons

Pw is about 135 yards.

50 is 130 on a max out but I normally play flighted shots. So my 50 half swing hits at my full 56, which at a half swing hits the 62 full swing. Flights are different but since matching up my wedge chart has really made me quite good into greens.

Set 49-12, Glide 2.0 54-14, 58-14, and SM6 62-8. The 58 in sand if need be, and it and the 62 for touch and flops. The 54 for sand, and it and the 49 mainly for length. Currently playing rounds with seven clubs, which I use the set 44-12 and Glide 2.0 54-14.

If I go to Glide 3.0s, likely will stay with a 54-14 and change to a 58-6 or 60-6, then drop the 62.
