PGA TOUR Superstore - disappointing!!!

So you got a great club at, in your words, a "very favorable price". Its delivered to you still in the shrink wrapping. And this is a problem....why? Because it was hit with the shrink wrap on? Oy vey.

This is why most all golf shops I know of either leave the shrink wrap on or apply tape to any new club tested in store, and why the person who helped you told you to take the shrink wrap off to see if it still looked hit. The average golf customer would be surprised to find out just how much of the "new" inventory a store carries has been tried out by someone, whether it be irons or woods. How many times have any of us gone into a golf shop, taped up a club off the rack and tried it, and then put it back on the shelf? I know I have. A lot. So has anyone else who has tried clubs in a store, especially when getting custom fit.

Relax and enjoy the new club. Good chance you'll have it scuffed all to hell during the first round you use it. Then you'll realize that golf clubs are meant to be used, they arent showcase cars just there to be waxed and photographed.

Life goes on, there are plenty of things that actually matter to get upset about. In the grand scheme of things a 2 year old club that I "had to have" that I got for a "very favorable price" that still has shrink wrap on it with a few marks on the wrap from being in a store and tested is something that doesn't bother me. Id still rather have that club I "had to have" in my bag, then dying on such a trivial hill, but thats just me.

Its a retail business and it happens all over....clothes/shoes are tried on, cars test driven, putters rolled etc its not some shady practice. As long as the club looked fine structurally and the marks were on the wrap, not a big deal at all to me.

I wholeheartedly agree that they're tools to be used, and after a few swings won't look any different, but in my opinion if you opt to purchase something listed as brand new (regardless of the deal) the condition should reflect that, especially coming from a major retailer. If somebody pulled that on the BST answering a WTB ad it wouldn't fly, I'm not sure why it should be any different here. If you walked into a big box store and had a display of these to pick from, I'm pretty sure every person here would pick the one that's pristine and not hit over the one pictured here. The club pictured here would likely be one of the last ones to sell. PGASS knows this as well, and IMO they do this on purpose to move items that would be slower to leave their shelves otherwise.

If the wrap is still on, its still "new" in their eyes. Context also in this case, its also an older model club, so to even have the wrap on with a couple marks likely reinforces "new", and without the ability to pick through in person or have in hand pics...sorry. Also context, this isn't a new M6 driver that you just paid 500 bucks for to which this would be more applicable and make more sense.

THIS.

I'd be awfully surprised if, when the wrapper comes off, there's even a single mark on the face. There almost certainly WON'T be any.

Only mistake the Tour Store made was not taking the plastic off the club before shipping. LMAO

I’ll play devils advocate for a second; let’s say he does take the plastic off and it DOES have a couple marks on it from being demoed. Then what? He may go back to the store and they might say the club has been used. PGA SS does have their playability guarantee but perhaps they are out of stock of that club. Lose-lose for the buyer.

It’s really up to the buyer as it’s HIS money. I rarely buy new clubs so when I do I would also expect it to be new and not a demo even if it does still have the plastic on. While not everyone looks at it this way, I think it’s reasonable to respect both sides and both lines of thinking.

Though I don't know about their playability guarantee vi-a-vis mail order,,,,,,,,,,,,,,I'd expect they'd take it back and refund. If they refused, THAT I'd have a big problem with.

Then again, it depends on how marked up the face IS. If there are a few ballmarks on it, no big deal. They'd be there right after I hit a half dozen balls anyway,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, but maybe that's just me,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

I’m in agreement with those who don’t think it’s a big deal. As long as the plastic was on it seems fine to me. I’d use the club without even thinking about it. Glad you got a really good deal on it.

Clearly I have zero feedback and have never bought or sold on the BST, so my opinion should be taken with a grain of salt. But to me this kinda of falls in the "Open Box" category not "brand new". to me brand new means no one has ever hit a golf ball with it.

After hitting a friend's Exotics CBX 3 wood, I was blown away...and had to have it. **So, after seeing it online at a very favorable price**, I clicked "buy." When I got home today, FedEx had left the package at my door...and I was pumped to go out this afternoon to give it a crack.

>

> Little did I know, despite purchasing what I thought was a "brand new" club, I opened the box to find a 3 wood that had been hit multiple times (pictures attached). I called the local PGA TOUR Superstore that fulfilled the order...the clerk's solution was for me to take the plastic off of the head, and to then see if it looked like it had been hit (?!!?!?!?!?!!).

The real clue is highlighted above in the OP's post. "at a very good price".

This club retailed for $349 and he most likely bought if for $139

https://www.pgatoursuperstore.com/tour-edge-exotics-cbx-fairway/1000000018885.html?cgid=golf-clubs-fairwaymetals#prefn1=brand&prefv1=Tour+Edge&start=1So for THAT kind of price for a club I was "blown away" over, I most certainly would NOT be returning it or complaining about ball marks on the wrapper.

This is the kind of customer that, if I owned a store and knew of this sort of track record, I'd just, very nicely of course, ask him to shop elsewhere - clearly not worth the trouble.

Just one person's opinion.

I bet that 90% of the people saying "its no big deal".... Would be upset and atleast consider sending the club back!

Its not a big deal when its someone elses money!

If it were me and i got a good deal on it i would more than likely keep it, but imo op has every right to be a little ticked and vent about it!

My guess is this club is being clearanced out and this was one of the last ones they had. My local PGATSS has 2 of these left on the shelf.

I 100% agree and totally get that, but op bought what was described as a new club. Plastic wrapper or not....the club has obviously been spanked!

The guys that are saying its not a big deal and he got a good deal on it are full of s***!

They are knocking op for complaining when he has every right to be salty!

Did hebget a good deal on a club he really wanted????? Yes, but it wasnt as described.

Is a car brand new if it has 30 miles on it from people test driving it? Are clothes brand new even if someone tried them on? Outside of the plastic showing marks, if the club itself is in “brand new” shape i.e. no discernible marks, nicks or scuffing then I seriously don’t see what the big deal is. It isn’t false advertising or misleading. The club has never been used in a setting outside of the shops putting green. So yes, they can still sell it as brand new.

You’re not playing with the plastic on and you are literally the only person that is going to know that someone else hit the club a couple of times.
