Part of me expected not a great showing from Tiger. Another part of me really thought because he can't hit driver everyhole, we'd see something special.

 

I also think he is content with his Master's victory for this year. I am sure with a broken back at 43, cold, rainy, angulation and the spots where he is driving the ball...it's harder and harder to grind out rounds, which he showed at the US Open he is still capable of. But he appears to lose interest after a handful of poorly executed shots.

Reading through this thread makes me appreciate the coverage we get from Sky Sports in the UK, only a couple mins of adverts every 20-30mins and lots of golf on display.

Also...they changed Duval's disasterpiece to a 14, so he is on the books as a 91 +20.

Hometown, has historically done very well on the course, first time in 50 years the open is in Ireland. I think he let it all get to him, wanted to win it so bad he just started off rough and then nothing went well.

If he has become that fragile, it doesn't bode well for the rest of his career.

Like to see Rahm and Brooks battling it out on this great course. This feels like a major. Great crowds, great course. Rahm really needs to get moving if he’s going to be considered among the all time best. Brooks continues to amaze. No surprise with Rory, I think most are not surprised by his shoddy play and it’s unfortunate considering the time and the place. Looking forward to the rest of the week. Hats off to the R&A.

I think if Tiger's gonna beat or tie Nicklaus, it's gonna happened by 2021. This week is a wash, but I think the next 2 years are going to be crucial. He's always a factor at Augusta, he's won at Harding Park (2020 PGA Championship), and in 2021 the US Open is at Torrey Pines and the Open is at St Andrews. I think he has a slim chance to get to 18 or 19, but he needs to stay healthy and play enough to get in Major form.

It's great to see these guys play a course where all mistakes are punished - generally always resulting in bogey or worse, it's takes a miraculous recovery to get the par. Very rare on tour these days.

Torrey Pines is a very long golf course, he's not winning a US Open there at 45 years old.

Make that three: The PGA, Memorial, and US Open. This is his fourth tournament since the Masters. Rest assured he would have put in more practice time and tournaments if his body allowed. I think when he says the Masters win took a toll on him, it's not just words.

I think the less he plays, the harder it will get and the less free range his body will have. Can't do part time golf out there. When he won the past 2 times he was driving himself into the ground to get it done because that's what he needed to do to get the final "redemption". Now? I expect, if can't commit the same way, it's totally understandable, but not much chance to win if he can't go after it.
