Is this a real Scotty Cameron? I went to Scotty’s website to authenticate it but nothing came up. Thanks everyone ?

the COA on the SC website and serial number are not matched with each other so you won't find anything. only those that are sent to the SC custom shop for a COA will come up with a different number.

I've always thought it was bad form to bring up for discussion here an item currently for sale on the BST. I'd hope you have already discussed with the seller with your concerns, and maybe reached out to a member or two who are more experienced in identifying Scottys, before posting here.

Y'all might call it bad form, but when the seller of said item only has 5 posts, and there is no feedback rating to look at, I would call it protecting your interests.

No issue with him protecting his interests. I’d do homework too. Better ways of doing it than putting the seller on semi blast here.

So as a relatively new member, possibly with no contacts here and little knowledge of the site who would you contact to see if it was legit? I don't believe he blasted the seller at all, he asked for help from the membership if the putter was legit to help protect his interests. If it turned out the putter wasn't legit would your reaction be different to the OP asking?

There are plenty of guys who know and can be located with a simple search. Potential buyer could pm them for 1.

 

Or say he’s got his eye on one and ask for help. Then send the link behind the scenes.

 

And no the outcome wouldn’t have changed my opinion. If he finds out it’s fake contact the seller. It’s quite possible the seller wouldn’t even know. It’s happened before with putters and headcovers.

 

I don’t think the OP is a jerk or anything for doing it. I just think there were better ways.

I will agree that there are other ways of investigating, but it bears repeating that the lack of a feedback rating is a huge issue.

I don't see an issue with the OP. Both the OP and seller of said item are new. I know on past instances - mods (specifically @Buzzkill ) have posted on behalf of the potential buyer and/or member who drew concern on the item in the DOND questioning items authenticity. I guess they either posted on the ad stating concern or flagged it so a mod could see. Nothing wrong with being too cautious.

 

 

 

I would possibly see different if this was a long time member - even then some of those sellers have also tried to sell counterfeits.

 

 

 

with that said - i'm available for those with questions on SC counterfeits.

I see absolutely no problem with the OP asking, if I was the seller wouldn’t bother me at all unless price comes into the discussion. In fact it’s kind of advertising the product.
