I could see both Wolff and Morakawa doing really well at the Open too despite their age. Kind of a shame that the 3M wasn't part of the Open qualifying.

They do keep track of them for pros. As anamatuer you can’t earn money so you can’t earn points.

not sure about am's getting points but I know once Wolff won and was pga member, he got the points from his previous pga starts as well for 2019. He only made the cut in one of them, waste management, so was only like a couple extra points.

Because they are ams and don’t have any claim to potential membership at the time. They can’t go back and retroactively get the money for the spot they finished in and thus can’t claim the points either.

If they won as an amateur they dont get pga membership and the exemptions that come with it.

Wolff received zero points from the WMO as he was an amateur. Wolff currently has 517 FEC points. 500 from his 3M win, 15 from the John Deere and 2 from The Travelers.

If you want the rewards that come with being a professional golfer, then you need to ....... become a professional golfer. Gaining access to top tournaments due to accomplishments as an amateur and then try to claim pro benefits? Yeah, that's not going to fly.

Yeah I don't get why people keep wanting amateurs to get pro perks. There's a reason why turning pro is a big decision. If amateurs can just keep getting perks why would they turn pro? Just like Wolff et al, they got some tournament exemptions to gain points because they were top amateurs (they did turn pro, thus exemptions). Their tournaments as amateurs don't count. They didn't get paid, because they were amateurs, and don't get points because of that. Money is the literal differentiator between am and pro. Not sure why @pinhigh27 doesn't get that. Some girl got in trouble for being in a Nike ad even though she didn't even get paid. Rules go both ways.

meh not logically consistent with concept of pro status being fluid and people regaining am status.

I'm fine with the concept of " if you want pro benefits then turn pro" except that once pro you should have to stay pro. reinstatement should not be a thing IMO. it should be a calculated decision if its worth it to turn pro, lose the ability to play in am events, etc.
