Ping G10 vs. Eye 2 BeCu irons

Add a 1/2" and put new grips on your Eye2's. No way I trade even up for G10's

The G10's might be a little more forgiving but trading even up for them you're coming out on the short end of the stick in my opinion. I think your BECU's are worth more than that if they are in decent condition.

I'd take the G10's. They are easier to hit and more forgiving than the Eyes's, and with the proper length and color code they will help you put your best swing on the ball.

I agree with what Ness and Disco posted but my point is I just wouldn't make a even up trade especially for G10's. If you could make the same trade for a nice set of G25's that's a different story. Maybe I'm putting too much value on your Eye2's but most people who have sold their old Eye2 becu's wished they still had them.

I agree with both statements but do people just wish they had them for nostalgia or because the are, pardon the pun, on par with today’s irons.

If I'm being honest I suppose most wish they still had them for the "cool" factor. I'd love to have a set but they would never kick my 410's out of the bag. We do have a guy at my course that plays to a 3 handicap that still plays his full time.

Why don't you ask your buddy to let you take his G10's to the range and/or play a couple rounds with em? Then you'll know if they feel better, and might possibly be easier to hit.

Personally, I'd lose a few bucks on a trade it it cut strokes off my game.

I'm assuming the eyes are what you are currently playing?

Just for informational purposes...............PGA Value guide (yeah some folks don't care for that, but that's what retail shops use when you want to trade in a set against a new purchase) shows the Eye 2's at $86 trade in and $204 retail. The G10's are $100 trade in and $237 retail. Now what they are asking and selling for on ebay is another story, but it includes shipping and waiting to get them and hopefully whom ever sold them was honest (serial numbers match and so on).

I slept on it and you are correct. Sending the to Ping today to lengthen and new grips.

You do realize that it will cost you a pretty penny to have Ping make those repairs, plus the fact that the current lie angle will change with the added length. The bigger question is how did you hit the G10's? If you hit them better then the eye's, then swap. Holding on to clubs for nostalgic sake against play-ability is not really going forward with your game. But that's just my opinion. Good luck with whatever you decide.

I love my "nostalgia bag" of BeCu Eye 2's. And I can play just fine with them, they're the set I take when we go to the beach for a few days and I'm playing a round or two on the resort course there.

But the sole design on modern irons like any of the G-series is very different and more forgiving of slightly fat or steep contact. To me that's the most important kind of "forgiveness". The MOI and such on the Eye 2 is just fine. Not equal to the highest current irons but way better than blades or "players" irons.

Honestly, I couldn't stick with the BeCu's as my only set. Day in, day out when I'm really wanted to play as well as I can I just feel like I'd be leaving strokes on the table so to speak. Wonderful second or backup or travel or throw-back mojo set. But I'd prefer G10's for everyday. The fact the G10's also are the right length makes it a no-brainer IMO.

So update - after a rigorous scientific side by side comparison on the range mats I have decided to stay true to the Eye 2 becu irons. The G10s are nice and the feel is more buttery and flight is definitely higher and clubs feel better length wise but the top line of the eye 2 is hard to beat. I’ll probably update at some point but for now I’ll focus on upgrading my G10 driver.

I'm not much for wishing for "do overs", but the two possessions I'd like back are my '65 Malibu convertible, and my Eye2 BeCu's.

The G10 is a REALLY good club, still viable today, at least until 2024. They represented a true upgrade to the G line with some weight moved out to the toe to reduce hooking issues with the G5's. But I not only wouldn't spend significant money for them in 2019, but I absolutely, positively wouldn't swap them for Eye2's, much less Eye2 BeCu's. Those are collectibles, and I don't care what a price guide says.

Glad you are keeping the Eye2’s. Never sell them. If you can, just buy the G10’s. Not a huge investment Less than a night out at a restaurant followed by a trip to a bar.
