Best 3 wood to play strictly as a driver

However, I recently stuck an old x100 3 wood shaft into a TM tip adapter and put it in an SLDR with really promising results, tight dispersion, and the wieght and length gave me the confidence to prefer the club over my 3wood (3deep). After some additional tinkering and late night ebay purchasing I have assembled an r15 430 head playing at 12 degrees (standard loft/lie setting) with a 103g steel shaft at 44". The larger club head, heavier and more stable shaft, and larger sweet spot has made this club a more accurate and more forgiving driving club as compared to previous strong 3 wood. I also set the weights with one on heel and one on toe for max stability and forgiveness. I have gained about 15 yards over my 3 wood with tighter dispersion. I still keep a longer, lower lofted, low spin, fade biased bomber in the bag for par 5's, wide open par 4's, and dogleg rights.

> Main point, a smaller headed (though bigger than the mini drivers on market) driver will create faster speeds over a larger face area. A shorter heavier (steel is great) shaft with a higher loft will create the accuracy you desire with a 3 wood, and possible even better when compared to a 43.5" lightshafter "bomber" 3 wood.

Interesting to try this with a lower spin driver head. I tried a 12 degree D2 at 44 inches (still graphite). It was more forgiving than the 3 Deep but didn't go any farther. The weighting of the 430 head may help keep the ball on a flatter trajectory and you still have a clubhead that's 2x the size of a strong 3 wood.

Always find it hard to comprehend that someone could simply not get on with a driver - that and my lob wedge have long been my favourite clubs in the bag. That said, reading what you have said, you sound like an ideal candidate for a mini-driver. I’m sceptical about how much of a market there is for them but you seem to be the perfect person for it.

I had a RBZ Tour, killed that thing of the tee. From the fairway, not so much.... Which is why it didn't stay in my bag.

Yesterday swapped out my Srixon 3w for a Epic flash subzero 15 degree and went out for 9 holes of practice last night and hit it off of several tees. This thing is long, and pretty easy to hit off the turf too, I would imagine a 13.5 degree would be a cannon off the tee.

I was this way a long time, it ultimately was setup/intent. Very tempting to tee it high, add a bunch of tilt, etc because you know, you gotta hit up on it for max distance (that and perhaps a club that is too long). Driver used to be a liability, but now it's a weapon.

The mini driver was a good bandaid/short term fix. Smaller head, teed lower, hit down on it like a 3W...and there you have it, a consistent tee shot.

Really wanted to love this one over the years as I've had 3 at various times (with like 5 different shaft combos). Seemed easiest to get distance from with a smoother swing, but as soon as I tried to step on it, spun too much (wether I changed the dynamics that much doing so idk). Also tested it against the G stretch for like an hour on the range going back and fourth, was only like 2-3 yards longer at best, but was better sounding/feel as the G was more metalic to me.

Then get a higher lofted driver man.... its just logic baby. I say size matters.... you say angle matters... then they cancel out so play the driver head baby and enjoy playin the right club mon frere. I love smashing the 43" driver it bombs and is accurate... its smashing baby

No cute little drives, gotta hit bombs to get in position to attack pins.

I'll give another +1 to the Callaway xhot. I had an xhot pro a few years back that went pretty much as far as my driver. Thing is a missile

Oh there aint nothin cute bout a 43" driver shot.... goes just as far as longer driver.... at least thats my experince. I love the lighter feeling too lets me turn on it harder then heavier driver......Have no prob yackin over 300 with it like a longer driver but with added accuracy to get in position to attack and shoot a little over or a little under par on a given day.... ijs.

Its a more aggressive move to play the 43" instead of 45" cause now I'm more confident to attack different parts of fairway and not settle for the fairway

Note: Rickie hasnt given up any yards by going shorter to a 43.5" compared to his longer driver... He even said so when he made switch couple years ago now if he could just close lol
