Tracks in/around Gulf Shores, AL.

Going to be on a family vacation in gulf shores next week and looking to get 2-3 rounds in. Was looking for some suggestions on what courses to look into? Long and tough tracks preferred. Thanks!

Peninsula has 27 holes IIRC and they alternate what nines they use to make the 18 for the day.

Lakewood has 36 holes. An older Perry Maxwell layout and a newer 18 as well.

Pensacola Country Club is a tough track. Have your Pro arrange to get you on with their Pro.

Right near Gulf Shores your best options are

 

Kiva Dunes (hardest)

Peninsula (27 holes)

Craft Farms (36 holes)

 

There are some other good courses further away in Foley and elsewhere but nothing wrong with these

We go down to Gulf Shores quite a bit. If you are staying on the beach, the closest places are craft farms and kiva dunes. (kiva is a little bit further). Kiva dunes has good layout, always in good shape, good test of golf. This fits your description the most.

 

Craft Farms has a more old school plantation feel to it. We have played both courses at craft farms a few times. (the nicest thing about craft farms is how close it is to the beach) They aren't going to wow you like crazy but I always found it to be an enjoyable round no doubt.

 

Haven't played Peninsula, its a personal thing but Ive never liked 27 hole courses. Especially if you only get to play once.

 

You have to go to this restaurant Called Tin Top, it is kind of in the middle of nowhere outside of gulf shores (little bit of a drive) but it is by far worth it... trust me. Bahama Bob's on the beach is also a good spot.
