Yes I ordered the silver insert to test the whole aluminum vs surlyn thing even though I much prefer the white insert in store at least. My putter definitely has the aluminum insert and the packing list indicates this as well. That said, once I got a grip I actually like on it I found I really really like the aluminum!

The feedback system is annoying

I posted this in the My Spider X thread of the putting section, but thought it might be useful here. I've been using an Itsy Bitsy proto (aka Spider Tour) since I got one of the limiteds after JDay's PGA win in 2015. For me, the My Spider X plays a little different because the weights are closer to the center of mass, meaning the X has a slightly higher closure rate than the Spider Tour, and that took some adjusting for me.

I play with 4g weights in my Itsy Bitsy, so I ended up with a 6g weight in the toe and 2g weight in the heel of the My Spider X. This gives me the same increase as if they were 4g weights, but also changes the feel a little so the head doesn't open/close as fast.

I may shock you , but I’ll second this finding. I played a red spider tour for a while. And the spider x does slam the face shut faster. Can be tough on hard breaking short right to lefters. Tends to want to yank it left.

lol. That’s why I prefaced that. If it helps , m6 kk combo has taken all comers and still around. So I’m not genuinely anti TM as a whole.

Been debating testing out 12g weights but also not seeing them available right now on the site. How were you able to get those in your cart?

  • 2 months later...

Well I may have played my last round based on the weather here in SW Ontario, so I figured it may be a good time to finally give a review.

First, I'd like to thank GolfWRX for the putter! It was great to win something and experience this process beginning to end.

History - I'm a putter Ho by definition. I've been through so many putters over my playing time that I would hate to guess the number of putters and $$ spent. After about 10 years away from regular golf, I got back into it this year in a big way. My entire bag was reworked and the putter was no exception. I'm typically a Scotty fan but I'm to the point now where I understand the need for some forgiveness and I just can't look at the Phantom line.

Ordering Process - Keep in mind I'm in Canada, so it took a little longer than the others to get a code that would work on the site. The TM webpage for some reason wouldn't accept my address as a shipping option so that put a wrench in things. TM customer service did their best to help me but after a few days I ended up creating a whole new account and it worked fine. Not really information needed for a putter review, but if anyone else tries to order and has this issue, I wanted them to know how I fixed it.

Selection - This was the hardest part of the entire process. SO MANY OPTIONS!! I was a Spider X user before I won the contest (I had a copper OTR for about 2 weeks before the contest ended) so I was obviously a fan of the look and feel. The TM website offers hundreds of combinations, the only thing I knew was that I needed a double bend version. I went through various colour options and harassed just about everyone I know to give me their opinions of the variations I created. In the end I went with something that matches my Titleist bag; red, black, and white. I'm very happy with the way it turned out.

Looks - As I've said, I was a fan even before winning. I love the white and white/red sightline I selected as I use red lines to mark my ball and its easy to line up. Some people have asked about durability and I've had no issues here. I practice 2-4 times a week and play 1-2 rounds. My putter gets used a lot and I've had zero issues. When I'm not putting, the headcover is on and I make sure not to use sandy/dirty balls when putting. I feel that with a little care, the finish shouldn't be a problem.

Feel - I loved the feel of the the copper OTR I had purchased so I followed this thread closely when the discussion was focused on the white vs. coloured inserts and the material used. I would have loved a black or red insert, but I wasn't willing to give up the softness the white insert offers. It's fantastic. The forgiveness is what sold me on this model, my miss is a little on the toe and the extra MOI is certainly welcomed. Coming from a Newport 2 user, the extra forgiveness was easy to feel and see. I still have the Scotty because I just can't part with it but it's been in the basement all year and I haven't thought of changing once.

I think this quick write up covers most of my thoughts but if anyone has questions please post them here or PM me. If I had one complaint, it would be the headcover. Its really soft and looks AWESOME, but a magnet instead of the velcro would be really nice as I've had it fall off a couple times. Other than that, I love the putter and the experience was fantastic.
