Unique golf phrases/words that you use...

Our group likes to use the following: Bill Pullman (pulled shot), Jeff Healey (healed shot), Ric Flair - Woo! (flared shot). If you skull a chip we like to say: you hit that one in the forehead. A shank is referred to as El Hoselle, or the Ole Mexican Chip Out. A draw or hook is called a Slinger (I am all to familiar with that one).

I have had an inordinate amount of skulled/thinned iron tee shots on par 3s, that tend to sit pin high and give me a decent look for birdie. Considering my first name is Vinnie, my friends have deemed that particular shot the “Vin Scully” (legendary Dodgers Broadcaster)

Just thought of another random one that my buddies and I use. Whenever we jam a putt home, we call it a Quentin Jammer (former UT Longhorn and SD Charger cornerback) lol

We call a long drive a 'two cheeker', as in, "That was a two-cheeker."

A putt on the lip is a Cuban. It needed one more revolution.

A lost ball is a 404.

If you leave a putt short, but “dead in the hole”, we call it a Rockefeller.

Most of ours are in regards to putting:

Hammer Hands ( Or los manos de los hammers)- a person who hits putts way past the hole

Shrimp D**k- a putt left well short

 

Then we have this guy Mark who thinks he gives the best reads on putts (they are actually often pretty good) but he never makes anything himself. Those are Mark Reads and they have been a running joke for some time.

Years ago, there was a golfer in town named Buddy Buchanan. He was known for giving himself putts well outside gimme range. It became common for guys in our group to say "I took a Buddy Buke on that hole." Or, "I had a Buddy Buke bogey. "

Lately the terms to use are fairway genie when we hit a drive that manages to stay on the fairway after a hook/slice turns into a fade/draw

A “Fabby” bet is for Fabulous Merchandise. Winner, instead of cash, gets to choose something from the pro shop that the loser buys (typically a shirt, not a Scotty Cameron!)

 

The advantage is you can wear the shirt as a sort of wearable trophy in future rounds to gloat.

For the guy in our group that has a succession of putts lip-out, we say he has liprosy.

I hit a particularly solid drive down the middle and I commented that I had "Nutted that one". Buddy steps up and flails one left into the woods and said that he had "Neutered that one". Now poor drives illicit the "neutered" comment.

My group refers to the fairway as the "walking grass" lol. They dont hit a lot of fairways

"Another Rum Boogie" - Based off a drink served at the Bethel Golf Course in Bethel, Maine.

"She gone" - Lose a ball. Coast to coast.

A "toilet ringer" in our family is when you hit one of those putts that roll half way around the lip of the cup but doesn't drop. Like water swirling around the toilet.

Cameron Champ made a blowgey on #17 Sunday after a 350+ drive, leaving about a 50 yard pitch to the green.

I use a few.

 

"Jaques Cousteau" is a water ball, the underwater explorer.

A "Kardashian" - when nobody makes a putt. Nothing white goes in that hole. (I said that in front of my step-daughter, she spit out her drink!)

"It's ugly but has big t**s." A lousy shot that ends up in good shape.

Whenever my friends say to me, "You play so much golf, your wife is probably has a boyfriend on the side."

I just say back, "Do you think If I get her another boyfriend I'll have more time to play more golf?"

Friend of mine this weekend, after he lagged a putt to three feet on an early hole, mumbled while half-distracted, “I’ll tap out.” instead of “tap in.” We kind of laughed a bit. “Ahh like in wrestling?! Yeah you should give up. Give up golf!”

 

For the rest of the round, there were plenty of opportunities to mimic this when someone in the group was on their way to a big number.... “I’ll tap out”. “I should have tapped out 3 swings ago.” “Or three holes ago.” “You should have tapped out 3 years ago.” “God that was a terrible shot. I’m tapping out.” “Argghh. Why do I play this stupid game?! I tap out!”

One of my favourites is worm burner for a low thin one but we mainly just try to wind eachother up after shots, whether good or bad, with overtly sarcastic comments

Never phased by missing the green, as I usually comment to my wife, my playing partner, as it's "**just a chip and a putt** (away from par)". I say that so much, and often convert, that even she's saying it now. Or when I complain about being off the green, she'll say something like "what's the matter, remember "it's just a chip and a putt"!!
