How do you care/pretreat for waterproof leather golf shoes

I picked up an awesome new pair of Footjoy Dryjoys, and a nice new pair of footjoy city leather shoes. They both have the 2 year waterproof warranty and have full grain leather uppers.

I was wondering what to do about maintaining and pretreating the shoes. Footjoy website didn’t have anything. I already own lanolin leather conditioner for some cowboy boots and redwings I own. I also have synthetic sof sole sprays for waterproofing shoes or other items.

Anyway, I was wondering what, if anything, to use. Thx

except for regular leather care, no need to water proof it. In fact, after market water proof spray is not good for the leather. The water proofing ability is from the layer of membrane built in, not from the leather. The leather itself needs to be soft and supple to maintain the shape and longevity.

The places would leak later on would be from the joint seam of the upper and the sole. Where it took the most bending and twisting.

Store the shoes in a cool dry place, which should extend the useful life of it. Same as grip and plastic, storing in the trunk of the car in hot Summer would be the worst you can do to golf shoes.

I have Dryjoy shoes that are 10 years old and still waterproof. Granted, I don't wear the same pair of shoes every round but they have never failed me.

Ditto on storing them in a cool dry place. I left a few pair in my garage after I moved and it pretty much destroyed them. Decided to wear a pair after they had been in the garage for 3 years and the sole absolutely came apart. That pair was probably 15 years old.

Very good info. Since I need to keep a pair of shoes in the trunk, would synthetic shoe upper be better suited? Is there a good synthetic waterproof shoe? Aren’t most premium shoes full grain leather?

I would find a container similar to towerware which could be sealed tight to store the shores and keep it out of the direct Sun. Avoid storing the shoes in the trunk during Summer, oe just be prepared to get new pairs every couple of years.

There is nothing you could do if the sole is made of leather like what we used to have decades ago. the sythetic material in the sole would preserve better in the changing temperature.

an earlier poster mentioned Nikwax. they make a nice bottled product that is a combination wax and waterproofer. no harm done there. I use that on my Eccos. seems to prevent saturation on morning rounds, especially after the course sprinklers have done their thing. keeping leather fed, as it were, it the best thing one can do to extend the life of any pair of shoes.
