LYNX Prowler VT irons Review (must try)

Hi all

 

Well here is an unexpected review of my new unexpected iron set.

 

A little bit about my game and myself , I'm a 26 year old 3 handicap with arthritis , you guessed it im full graphite.

 

Current gamers were Nike vapor pro combo with project X graphite 6.5 shafts.

 

I've tested alot of irons over the past season trying to find the perfect set here's a few to hand.

Ping I500

Ping I210

Titleist Ap2

Taylormade P790 & P770

Mizuno JPX 919 Tour & Forged

 

But what beat everything and blew my current gamers out the water were the Lynx VT

 

Ball speed gains, distance gains, and control was so much better with tighter dispersion,

 

I ended up getting fitted with

 

4-pw UST recoil 780 F5

Standard length & 2* flat

 

I've only had them a short period with limited course time but man are these things sweet

 

Look good and feel amazing, it might still be the honey moon but can see these in the bag for a long time

 

All I can say is

 

The Big Cat is Back !!!

Yes Kody they are a hollow head design , but IMO they feel so much better than the i500 and not as harsh as the TMB , they are also a forged face design same as the i500

I read on either this or another site that callaway was sure this was their iron and they were copied from their latest muscleback!!! But whatever happened I like the looks of them wish they made them in left handed

You may not be that far off. The pic on the right is the Dynacraft Prophet MB Forged from Hireko Golf circa 2015. The pic on the left is Lynx's "new" forged cavity back released this year. Yeh everything looks pretty similar to other clubs , the performance on the other hand is great , the CB forged there also look like the new Callaway X forged, I must admit that the VT I have are really similar to the Titleist 712u

Great looking clubs! I was interested in these a few months ago. I contacted Lynx, who pointed me to Dallas Golf as the only US distributor. I contacted Dallas, and they only had one or two sets of the VTs already assembled with shafts that wouldn't work for me.

 

Yep, Bishop is right. It looks like a couple of Hireko designs magically became open foundry designs. That being said, what Lynx and their supplier have done to turn the Hireko Prophet MuscleBacks design into the VTs looks like some solid improvements. I love the Prophet MBs (non-forged version), haven't tried the forged version referred to by Bishop.

yeh there is alot of reatailers that are only suppliers and not custom fitters I was lucky to have one very close to me. I must admit all there iron lines this year are pretty good.

Yeh exactly , i played Titleist 670 mb for about 6 years and then moved onto my vapor pro combos , these are by far the most forgiving club I'll be gaming for a lengthy period of time.

They are just open models that multiple companies can buy. Some work and perform better than others but are kind of stock offerings from the true manufacturer and each company can pick stampings to make it theirs.

I would’t say they are modeled after, they are the same other than the logos.

Well they are definitely the right Price £599 in the UK , well worth it , graphite is more expensive , but still totally worth it

Well 1 month in with the irons and must say the honeymoon period is still going strong.

 

Played a local course today and my ball striking just seems great with the new irons shot +3 which for the cold wet weather here in Scotland I'm pretty happy with.

 

I have had no inconsistencies I've heard some people talk about with hollow headed irons, like flyers or sudden jump in distance. I am however about 1 club up on distance, this could just be down to the stronger loft Vs my ol' Nike VPC.

 

I can shape these irons knock them down and I love the sound.

 

All I can say is hats off to Lynx for making an excellent iron at an excellent price.

 

Hope more people will consider them for there next set

Hey there, I know this is a slightly aged post but I'm just checking back to see if your opinion of the clubs has changed in any way.

 

I'm familiar with both the T-MB and the i500. The i500 was a tad harsh for me and the T-MB feels decent. Would you still say that the VT's feel better? Is the size of the VT's similar to either?

 

Any other updates you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thx!

Hi all

Well after playing these since last October , I can confirm that these are not going anywhere anytime soon.

Performance on these are still holding up great and they are just so easy to hit and work. I really hope some people have read this and managed to get there hands on a set for themselves .

 

The finish also holds up great on the chrome .

Longball just wanted to thank you for this review. I was originally looking to get the p790s transitioning from my starter set and I put a set together of these irons after reading your review and in my first session at the range they might already be the best club I have hit. Can't wait to get these out on the course but the dispersion was excellent compared to what I am used to and the clubs are very forgiving on off center hits. I was very lucky a fellow golfwrxer was selling the heads on here as getting these things in the states is not an easy task.

And I thought I read on one of these threads that these are not “open” designs but are a model created by Lynx? Not that I really care, but there was a claim that these are copies and that seems to be unsubstantiated. Does Lynx have its own club designs if anyone knows for sure?

I'm not sure that "open design" and "copy" are the same thing but Lynx did confirm to me via e-mail last summer that they really did not have inhouse R & D. I suspect that means they are tweaking available open designs - could be from Hireko since they own their own foundry.

Yes, I had seen that but also read that they did both — designed some models led by Kevin Woolgar and also relied on consulting with manufacturers on others. Found this snippet in a European review of the VT:

“Sitting alongside the Prowler® Forged CB club, comes the Lynx Prowler® VT muscle-back iron – combining a hollow-headed design with variable face thickness to deliver a killer combination of incredible ball-speed, higher flight and playability.

Both new tour-inspired irons have been developed in-house at Lynx’s Weybridge design HQ.”
