Golf Ireland

Recommended Posts

Old/New member here. Had an account years ago which was no longer active so I'm starting a new one.

I'm planning a trip to South West Ireland in 2020 and getting quotes from a few different travel agencies. Curious if anyone can recommend one they used in the past, but also want to know if people have used Swing Golf Ireland before? swinggolfireland.com

Thanks in advance...

I just returned from an Ireland golf trip for me and a buddy of mine. Unless you have multiple foursomes my advice is: YOU DON"T NEED A TOUR COMPANY. B)

I started out using one and then realized after calling and emailing the courses I wanted to play that basically every one of them is accessible. Stayed at B&B's based on tripadvisor, so the only thing left was transport, which my buddy did the driving. Very easy to plan out thankfully. If you have a larger group then I understand yes use them. But anything a foursome or less certainly doesn't.

As per above.

But if you do want it done for you this is my personal choice: https://scottsdalecollection.com/golf-trips/

One option is to try and get in his Golf and Music annual event if it suits your schedule, then you would get to join a bunch of others on the trip. Otherwise, he can help customize a trip for you. He is a member at Lahinch, so has some invaluable connections.

Just came back from a southwest Ireland trip. No laying up has a great review of all the major courses. In order of preference I would suggest the following: Lahinch, Waterville, ballybunion, tralee, doonbeg, and back to Lahinch lol. You definitely don’t need a travel agent if you’re willing to put in a little leg work. If not just go to tourism Ireland and they’re incredibly welcoming and easy to work with

I agree with the idea of booking your own accommodation and golf as far as possible. But you might run into some scheduling issues in which case SWING Golf can help out. We got them to arrange tee times at a few courses like County Down which were proving hard to nail. But a golf trip around Ireland just playing, staying and drinking will be a lifetime experience.

I’ve done it both ways and strongly prefer using a tour company for Ireland because the small amount of admin expense was a no brained compared to the amount of time I spent doing it myself. I’ve been on around 25 golf trips to Ireland over the last 13 years, as short as 3 days and as long as 24 days. Two of them I booked myself and 10 of them contained 16+ golfers. The ones with a lot of golfers required help from a tour company. The weekend stays didn’t. The rest I found more convenient to just have someone book the places I wanted for me for what amounts to roughly a 12-15% surcharge.

Don't use a tour company!!!!!

You'll be wasting your money.

Make a preliminary itinerary yourself, then contact those courses and book your tee times through them. It takes a little work but not all that much. They are usually very prompt in their response. I did SW Ireland a few years ago: Lahinch, Waterville, Tralee, Ballybunion, Old Head. Booked everything myself and it worked out fine. Didn't love Tralee but every other course was fantastic!

And Ballygarry House is a pretty good hotel.
