Phil needs to dump his instructor

I think he can still contend at events like the AT&T Pro-Am and Phoenix and maybe make a run at Augusta in his 50s, but outside of that I think for him to win everything needs to go right for 4 days.

I know I am new on this forum but just reading this makes me laugh at the comments and also the remarks back at each other. I think Phil will be one of the all time greats by the end of his career. I don't think he needs to prove anything anymore. One of the best short games in history, cocky, arrogant, and can back up anything he says it seems. I mean how many people can really have the balls to hit a putt and try to hit it again without it stopping first.

If you look closely, I think you can see some sloppy areas in his swing. Something like Stack and Tilt or the 7-4-7 System might help him extend his career a couple more years.

After listening to a Butch Harmon interview last year I got the idea (between the lines) that the coach isn't the problem but more that Phil doesn't listen or prefers to do it his way. Seeks help but already knows best.

That's been painfully obvious for the majority of his career.

He's made a ton of money, now just making cuts, 33rd ranked FedEx cup, and made almost 2.5 mil already this year. Reality is that he's making more money than ever (relative to performance) since events are paying out a lot more now. I'd say he's doing pretty well especially since he is playing out his competitive years before senior tour. Dude is a legend, has made more than 90 mil over his career, and still averages 306 off tee, not to mention has marvelous calves. He's not changing his swing fundamentally at this age. No point in that.

Gankas uses some solid fundamentals to build around your natural swing. Phil does not need a rebuild ..just some tweaks..thought it might be worth a shot.

Phil getting hot for a week and getting few more tour wins is more icing to a loaded cake. He will probably split time on pga/champions...but should dominate the senior tour very soon

I am not going to read all the posts here. My opinion on Phil is that he is unwilling to dial it back. If you did just a little and stopped trying to hit "sexy bomb" and stuck to "cute cuts" he would still be plenty long to compete, and would may even win. This year, maybe as a result of the super speed training giving him bad habits, he is literally swinging out of his shoes and falling off balance to hit the ball as hard as possible. he needs to work on a more balanced swing.

 

I think he still has the skill and talent to win on the PGA if he just stopped trying to play bomb and hope.
