I’m getting a new set of Cobra F8 irons... What would be an ideal graphite shaft weght for me?

My choices are from:

Aldila Rogue 65

UST Recoil 460

UST Mamiya Recoil 95

 

I’m a very high handicapper, and I play about 2-3 times year but I’m starting to play more. I also recently realized that I’ve been playing with the wrong set of clubs for the last 15 years. I bought a set of Cleveland TA5 graphite irons with a Stiff flex shaft when I started playing. I should’ve been using a Regular flex shaft. Now I’m ready for a new, more forgiving set.

I recently went for graphite shafts from personal choice. i'd played steel in the past and after a loooong time out of golf, i wanted a new set. I choose the club i wanted first (cobra one length forged tec black) then i knew i wanted to try graphite.

At the time, the store had what i wanted and there wasn't an extra choice in the shaft for graphite version, so i took them. Maybe like you if i checked the options i'd be confused which ones to take or what would be the difference to me.

It's mostly down to personal choice in my opinion, otherwise you need to find the right store with the right shaft options for that paticular iron you want to really tell the difference. Brand to brand, the iron head will behave differently in the exact same shaft option.

Stiff flex is generally for faster swing speeds, while graphite is for slower swingers....so they say.

I went with full graphite shafts, even with a fast swing and i learned that i just have tpo adjust my swing style a little bit to the feel of the club.

 

I really like the UST Mamiya recoil 780 ES smacwrap F3. they're regular flex and weigh 82g.

 

Long story short, i would advise if you will invest in a new set of irons that you really try and experiment with them. I was recommended an extra stiff shaft, based on the numbers that came from the trackman during testing, but later i went on my own decision to buy a different driver wit a regular flex shaft and it's more comfortable and feels much better.

 

Don't rush into the decision if it's going to cost you a fair ammount of money.

145 yards for a 7 iron, is in my opinion short. I would hit it 165 yards and not only with a single shaft or club design. Do you want to get distance, or do you prefer control? How do you want the ball flight to look like, high, low ?
