Fixing In to out path

Recommended Posts

So I started with a severe 10 degree in to out swing. Sliding hips and high left shoulder.

I have been trying to fix this by rotating more with my lower and upper body on the downswing, feeling like an over the top swing. I have been hitting fat shots and pulling my drivers dead left.

I can post a video later, just not sure if I'm on the right track to fix this. Any help would be appreciated.

Post a swing. Could be something simple like sucking arms inside on takeaway too much getting stuck and early extending some, cause the body knows you have nowhere to go but out and up. I had this issue and would practice with a 1/2 filled water bottle just outside and to the right of the ball... VJ drill. You swing out and you will cream the bottle. May help but Im no pro. May be a temp bandaid until you figure out WHY you are compensating ( ie swinging out )

You're tracking in the right direction, but your high left shoulder and slide are most likely a result of something happening in your takeaway and backswing. Once you fix those, the "over the top" transition and pivot should be a lot easier to execute on (or even go away naturally). Post a swing vid as the other have said so we can see what is happening earlier in the swing.

On my takeaway I felt like the shaft was over my heels, and a very deep hip and shoulder turn. Maybe I was too shakllow.

Now I'm working on a more outside takeaway and upright backswing. My swing thought is rotate everything left on downswing, but I feel my arm is pinned across my chest and I'm stuck.

Will post a video of my old swing and proposed changes later after work if I have time.

Before you do anything else, try these two drills and focus your awareness on swing path.

1. Feet together drill. Take an alignment rod and put it down where the ball goes pointed toward the target. Hover the club just over the rod and swing back and forth, back and forth. You will have to swing in balance or you will fall over. Now for the path focus which is not expressly mentioned in the video. As you swing back and forth, notice where the club passes over the rod. Intentionally swing out and intentionally swing inside, all without stoping the back and forth swing. Notice the differences in how your body moves when you do that. Go back to swinging down the line. How does that feel different? This is the "falling off the bike to learn to ride one" part. You won't have to focus on take away or hip thrust or any other body part. Feel in balance and feel how small changes you make swinging the club back and forth impact path.

2. The Hogan Drill. Do the same as above, but with your feet in your golfing position. Again use the alignment rod and intentionally swing inside and out to feel the difference.

new swing where im trying to rotate more on the downswing and feel like im almost coming over the top. also more of an outside takeaway and more upright. causing a fade

old swing where i have a more inside and shallow takeaway. swing out to right field to hit a draw.

Note i am right handed, but cannot flip the videos.

My old swing was 10 degrees out so I was trying the exact opposite to get a more neutral path.

So keep the old swing, but try to get the arms more out in front and swing more down the line instead of right field?

Any drills or videos for the shoulder movement. I always seem to have a high left shoulder on the downswing

Need to set wrists more vertical on backswing. You flatten the shaft after p2 which gets you too deep in the backswing. Need to have grip pointing closer to toes at P3 - will get hands more over the back half of trail foot at the top - your hands are currently way behind your trail heel.

Seems like you sit into your trail hip and collapse the lead hip - lead knee works out toward toes and not so much in - you have little lateral shift in transition - imagine you might keep your pressure too much back.

The new outside take away is a bit extreme, but I would not call that over the top (at least not in the traditional sense). I agree with GLK, his original swing had a bit too much depth and there is something funky with the hip action. Perhaps needs to loose a bit more flex in the trail leg and have lead knee pitch in less. Im not sure, a lot of good things going on so perhaps best for a professional to assess

Not more down but out toward toes then the rotation brings it in a bit. Good example here

Or you can do a number of variations of the step drill.

On pressure, goal is to have pressure shift to trail foot by lead arm parallel - then between there and top the pressure shifts toward the lead foot - by

P3 pressure mostly in back foot - arch to heel and on lead toe - transition starts somewhere close to end of backswing - another good drillhttps://www.instagram.com/p/BtywnanlLn_/

On slide, you don't slide much and what you do is late in downswing - swing is part lateral and then rotational - the lateral happens between arm parallel backswing to arm parallel downswing (yes there will be a bit of rotation) then rotation dominates - get lateral (both upper torso and lower) early get pressure forward early and sets up getting low point ahead of ball among other things. Right now you blend rotation and lateral. It's a downhill move lateral first followed by rotation -https://www.instagram.com/p/BqYLDStl_fy

two new videos with the new feels. more wrist hinge on backswing. less lead knew pitch. working knee more towards toes. downswing working on better weight shift into lead leg. trying to get a lower left knee and shoulder to stat downswing. overall i feel it looks better and my shots were nice draws.

I think my rear knee needs to extend more on the backswing. this seems more severe than before, maybe due to the changes.

got my lesson back from dan carraher. He has me working on my backswing. I have no depth with my hips and my arms move too much away from me on the backswing causing a disconnect.

Im trying to get my takeaway more inside and keep my right arm on top longer with no rotation of the arms. at parallel im just bending the right arm which gets all the 'up' that i need in the swing. these changes will get my arms more in front of me with more hip depth.

swings start at 0:22. first two were okay. next two were close to shanks. definitely looks better. just need to put some reps in.

one think i noticed is that at address, the ball is lined up with the heel of the club. not sure if this is an allusion or something that needs fixed.
