I drive the ball like a little girl

Recommended Posts

So, in watching the ladies British Open my attention was piqued when I noticed the young lady who won it (wasn't she great to watch!?) was driving the ball distances that I drive it. Then I noticed she's about half my size. The wheels have been turning since. How does that happen? I don't know the clubhead speed they're at, and assume they are certainly hitting the sweet spot, have optimized gear, etc. Anyway, I found it interesting. Fun tourney to watch yesterday...

Hinako's swing speed is in the 98 mph range. Her smash factor is probably 1.49, or 1.48 on a bad day. That's the key. She hit 77% of her fairways for the week, and 83% of her greens in regulation.

How often do you hit 11 fairways, and 15 greens?

What's your drive SS? That would obviously be the place to start on this puzzle.

This thread fits into the three common Golfwrx thread tropes . . .

— Tiger versus Jack

— Men versus LPGA players

— Blades versus GI irons

All three continually appear in various forms and all three turn big, burly men into passionate irrational mush.

The LPGA calculates driving average on two holes each round, one upwind and one downwind. Her daily averages were 259, 263, 233, and 264. Since they only track two holes, they include both drives, even if they aren't in the fairway. That likely explains the 233 number. It's also possible she hit a 3 wood playing for position. Her average for the week was 254 yds. Toss out the low average, and its 262 yds.

262 yards is a very good drive for a recreational golfer. It isn't all about how big you are. She probably has very quick hands.

First, the OP needs to be 2 beerperhole.

Jokes aside, exactly like what you stated. If a 130 lb. person could throw 80-90 lb. of the 130 lb. into the golf swing instead of a 200 lb. person swinging with mostly arms. Huge advantage for the person whom could utilize the body weight through shafting the center of balance.

Simply put, like throwing a punch, throwing a basebal. If one knows how to use the bady mass to assist the motion ( in golf is to deliver the club head to the golf ball ).

Stop worrying quantifying the numbers of swing speed, club head speed.........If I watch a person hitting a 120 lb. puching bag, I won't be measuring how hard he throws a punch. I'd be watch how the bag react after he hit it. The most devastating kick I had witness was this guy throws a kick at the 120 lb. bag, the bag will momentarily motionless then swung back in a big arc like in slow motion. No one wants to receive that kick, it'll be the end of the sparring right there. The guy had thrown his whole body weight behind the kick.

Watch how atheletes in other sports generate power. Golf is no different. The LPGA pro had used almost all she has to hit a driver and you probably only utilized a portion of your potential.

Also keep in mind, the better you use your potential, the more chances you'll sustain injury in the future.

Yep. She just knows how to properly use her body such that the arms/hands have room to move in the most efficient way possible

Take a look at Mi Hyang Lee. She's 5' 3", and probably weighs 125 lbs. She averages 263 yds off the tee. Great tempo and extension. On plane. Quick hips.
