TOE hits

I've been hitting my long irons off the toe all summer and cant seem to correct the problem. Woods and wedges doesn't happen, just 4-7 irons really. I know it could be a balance issue... like, getting back on my heels at impact, but I checked that via video and it looks ok.

 

What are some errors that cause toe hits?

I like to do drills/practice that don't focus on body movements, so bear with me if that's your preferred method.

 

Get some foot spray and try to hit ten shoots off the toe (like you are doing now). Try to hit ten off the heel. And then, try to hit ten out of the middle. For me this trains club face awareness.

 

@MonteScheinblum has a cool drill where you put two balls really close to one another, line up like you're going to hit one, and then reroute to hit the other on the way down. That might help too.

Maybe balance but more like standing more upright at impact to help distance. Simply remind yourself over the ball, STAY DOWN through impact.

As a chronic toe striker for years I pretty much solved mine by lining up with the ball already out on the toe or even outside the club. I am not sure what it does but takes the toe strikes away lol. I think it just forces you to "zipper away" (thanks Monte) to reach the ball. I rarely hit out on the toe now and golf is a whole lot easier. I do not have to line up with the ball out on the toe every time now but if it creeps in during a range session or playing I will for a couple of shots.
