Cross-handed Grip.

I got paired up with a guy who said he wanted to play from the tips. No problem, it’s an easy course.

 

560 yard par 5, slight dogleg left, I hit my drive thru the dogleg but safe. He takes 3 iron with left hand low (he’s a right hander) and rips a beautiful little fade a good 230 yards in the fairway.

 

Never saw anything like it. Every shot was cross handed. He was good, not great, but definitely better than average. I didn’t ask him and he didn’t say anything about his unorthodox grip.

 

Anyone ever see a cross handed grip.

My 70 year old grandfather has played cross handed and two gloved most of his life. Not a very good player but enjoys the game more than most and never an ounce of anger.

I played with my first cross handed player a few weeks ago in a random out of town pairing.

 

Solid player. 9 cap or so. Shot 81.

 

Played a little fade every shot, hit the ball solid but not super long.

About 2 years ago I went out as a twosome with my buddy. Ended up paired with a twosome that BOTH played left hand low. Both close to, if not, single digit and not terribly long but longer than me. Nice guys.

 

Never seen even one left hand low before or since (except on Big Break). What are the chances two playing together?

I played for years with a guy who played cross handed. He was missing a couple of fingers on one hand and had had a number of shoulder surgeries on the opposite side. Hit it about 190 straight down the middle every time. He understood his limitations and just liked being out there. He did have an uncanny knack for making birdie any time there was five or six carryovers.

My pal who I got into the game played his whole first season cack handed, he also swings a baseball bat that way..but plays hockey left. He got on quite well with it, but since we got him switched over to normal grip his game has improved bigtime and continues to.

University of Oklahoma had a freshman last year that plays crosshanded. Welch is his last name.

There was a guy on big break who used a crossed handed grip. Did pretty well. His name is on the tip tip of my tong.

 

I don't know if he still does but Chris Wood does a cross handed grip for a practice routine.

There was a guy on the old Web.com tour, Josh Broadaway, that used a cross hand grip. VJ has been chipping cross hand recently on the Champions Tour.

It always seemed odd to me when people putted that way but to hear a guy ripping a 3i 230 yrds... that's impressive. Don't change whats not broken.

From 30 yards and in I chip cross-handed and will never go back to conventional.

He might be left-handed and hitting from the correct side? I give him a lot of credit for trying to swing normally.

Only one I have ever seen is my grandpa when he first started playing.. not very good but enjoys the game. He has since changed his grip to conventional.

There's about 4 or 5 guys at my club that play cross handed, all mid single figure handicaps. Very good chippers and putters to a man, but solid long games too.
