Denver golf trip last weekend

Just wanted to get this out here after my trip last weekend to visit Denver.

Had a blast playing Wellshire. Cool course that was in incredible condition. "Best condition in 20 years" according to the pro shop staff. I would absolutely play there every day if I could.

Played the Ridge at Castle Pines and it was in great condition. Our group struggled here for whatever reason. It just felt like every miss really escalated the trouble you ended up in. Still a fun layout, but I'll try someplace new before going back here on future trips.

Ended the trip with Bear Dance. This was an absolute treat. The green complexes had a few patches they had been repairing, but they were rolling great and a lot of fun. There are some particularly outstanding views on the back 9 in particular. This was one of those rounds that we couldn't stop talking about afterwards about how fun it was. I'm excited to go back next time I'm in the area.

Wellshire is a Denver municipal course. The layout was designed by Donald Ross (he did what he could with the little amount of land he was given), but he never returned for the actual construction of the course. It's a great course with small greens that requires shaping shots both ways for low scores. As a municipal course, also expect to play 18 in no less than 5h30m--especially on the weekends--which is why no one ever recommends it to out-of-towners.

Wellshire seems ok until you play it more than once. The layout is terrible. I've been hit into more times on this course. Almost every hole on the front parallels another hole, and I'm not talking about 5-10 years, LITERALLY right next to one another.

Here's a link to a photo tour of Wellshire taken during the Winter. I enjoyed the course. It was okay, not great. In January it wasn't crowded and we played fast. In Summer it is a slow round. I've only played it a couple of times but don't have any recollection of it being super tight where you are likely to get hit into except by a really bad golfer which can happen at most courses [https://flickr.com/photos/golfcoursepix/albums/72157631925615576](https://www.flickr.com/photos/golfcoursepix/albums/72157631925615576 "https://flickr.com/photos/golfcoursepix/albums/72157631925615576")

Sounds like a great trip...never played Wellshire, heard good things about Ridge @ CP.

I was out there a couple of years ago and we went out west on I70 and played Redland Mesa (outstanding condition and a nice course), Dakota Canyon Ranch (not in outstanding condition, nice, but over priced) and Bear Dance which I played many times now. IMO, BD is one of the nicest public access courses in the metro DEN area...while BD is slightly off the grid being south of Highlands Ranch, on the north side of town...Riverdale Dunes is one of the best values around...conditions, degree of challenge, and price is hard to beat.
