Mid-Mallet Mayhem

I figured I’d start an appreciation thread for the mid-mallet owners out there. I love them. IMO, they are the perfect balance of setup and performance.

 

I was inspired by a rare find in OKC this past weekend. A mint condition Odyssey Black Series Tour #5. Previous owner had put a shaft extension in and a different grip...then proceeded to not play it for however many seasons. I bought it for a GREAT price, fixed the shaft, and it immediately became my gamer.

I like the mid-mallet as well just need to find one I really groove with in all areas from look, setup, feel and performance. Have an Argolf Avalon which I do enjoy and might play again soon. I do have a Toulon Atlanta showing up this week, so will see how that feels.

I have a large mallet right now (futura 6m) and I just do not feel confident with it. I may be joining the mid mallet gang if I can find a good deal on an Odyssey milled or toulon putter. I think mallets with some toe hang are the best out there right now, and Odyssey to their credit understands it.

Don't hold your breath for that Toulon Atlanta to be the answer. They were being passed around the BST for a while. Its a pretty small head...unique shape, lines up a bit funny to me. It looks great tho. I really wanted it to work for me.

I should have it today so will see, I've seen one before and it is indeed small but who knows may like it. If not then off it goes like the others I've bought this past year. Such is the way of a putter-ho.

I will be buried with this putter.

Love the weight, feel (non insert). I backweighted it which really improved the feel.

They still are being passed around quite a bit, there is at least one for sale now and it seems there is one posted every week.

I use a Kevin Burns mallet from 15-20 years ago. Bought it NOS for $75, has a copper insert, clean lines and just plain works.

LOVE that putter. I had a Gauge Design myself for awhile. Great putter.

I go to OKC for my job several times a year. Where did you find it? Beautiful putter. That series has always been my favorite from Odyssey. My son played a #8 in high school. The finish held up great!

Thanks! Go see Jerimiah at Golf USA (northern OKC). They have a group of guys that regularly stop in and trade all kinds of stuff. I went on back to back days...1st day, it wasn’t there...2nd day it was!

Love my Toulon Atlanta. My guess is people give up on them too quickly. Amazing feel and consistent roll. Ball doesn't shoot off the face where u catch a "hot" putt. Distance control has been fantastic.

I love the Betti in that collection. Not a center shafted guy myself, but I have and love the half moon Studio Stock #7. Make me give serious thought to a center shafted one.

Slighter Redmond...it’s a fantastic putter. I don’t use it all the time but it’s been a great part of the rota for 10 years.

I'll need to chime in here as I've bought a few over the past couple months (with a T22 Fastback on the way).

Current lineup includes:

Scotty Global Limited - birdie machine thus far (7 in last 3 rounds)

Spider Tour - never misses in the golf shop, had to have one.

Toulon Portland H4 -- although this may not stay as it surprised me how small it was.

How do you like the studio 38 vs the 3? Sweet collection overall...

I’m not sure yet, I only got the 38 a few days ago. Work is horrible this month, but hoping to get out on Monday for a round, not played for a month. Roll on September and I can get back to my 3 times per week.
